  • Patent number: 4755412
Abstract: A packing laminate in the form of a web with thinned edge zones is manufactured by providing a wide raw material web simultaneously with a number of parallel thinned areas. The raw material web is then covered with layers of thermoplastic material, whereupon it is divided into webs of the desired width by means of cuts placed asymmetrically in the said thickness--reduced areas. As a result the finished laminate webs obtain thermoplastic-covered, thickness-reduced edge zones of different widths.

  • Patent number: 4606784
Abstract: In the manufacture of packing containers from laminated material contact between the inner layer of the material and the contents is avoided by doubling up the cut edges present in the packing container. It has proved to be difficult to perform a secure folding and sealing of the folded edge without damage to the material, since the outer, water-tight layer of the material consists of very thin, heat-sensitive thermoplastic. This difficulty is overcome by carrying out the folding and sealing of the edge of the material web gradually while at the same time supplying heat or glue. By supplying the sealing-promoting agent as late as possible during the course of folding, damage to the material as well as to the folding arrangement is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4401004
Abstract: In the manufacture of a packing container laminated packing material is used which with the help of a rotating cylindrical cutter is made thinner within a limited longitudinal region. This reduction of thickness has been difficult to realize up to now with the desirable accuracy, since the specified depth of cut that has been set may readily be influenced by vibrations in the moving material or in the cutter. These difficulties are overcome by a guiding device, arranged in the immediate vicinity of the edge of the cutter, which limits the thickness of the strip cut away. The guiding device is suspended in contact with the cutter in such a manner that not only are the vibrations reduced, but also the influence of the remaining vibrations on the depth of cut is minimized. The guide is adjustable to vary the depth of cut and includes air outlets for cooling the cutter and for guiding the cut strip away from the packing material.
