  • Publication number: 20210114699
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the direction and the amplitude of a force applied to a system (IO) comprising a stationary portion (13) and a mobile portion (12) which can deform when exposed to said force. Mechanical deformations applied to the mobile portion when exposed to said force are measured by measuring a distance between the stationary portion and the mobile portion in the direction of application of the force, and the distance measurements are processed in order to determine the amplitude and the direction of the force.

  • Patent number: 8695739
Abstract: A system and method for a propulsion system includes an electric motor and an energy storage unit configured to supply a primary power to the electric motor. The propulsion system also includes a plurality of auxiliary power units (APUs) configured to supply a secondary power to at least one of the electric motor and the energy storage unit. Each of the plurality of APUs includes a free-piston engine configured to generate a mechanical output, a linear generator configured to transform the mechanical output to an electrical power, and a controller. The controller receives a power command from the electric motor and/or the energy storage unit, determines an amount of secondary power needed to meet the power command, and selectively activates a number of the plurality of APUs to generate the needed amount of secondary power.

  • Patent number: 8532828
Abstract: A system for damping audible noise from a drive train. One embodiment is a system with an audible noise signal from a drive train wherein a damping circuit produces a damping torque that is a phase shifted and amplified version of the noise signal that is applied to the air-gap torque of a generator or motor coupled to the drive train and effectively reduces the audible noise.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 7, 2008
Date of Patent: September 10, 2013
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Simon Schramm, Christof Sihler, Jan Hemmelmann, Robert Roesner
  • Patent number: 8405480
Abstract: An electrical assembly is provided. The electrical assembly includes a ring having at least two annular segments. Each annular segment includes a first portion and a second portion. The second portion tapers from the first portion toward an end of the second portion to define a circumferential cross-sectional area of the ring that is substantially constant along a radius of the electrical assembly. At least one winding is coupled about the ring.
