  • Patent number: 4407657
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a picture display tube a gettering device is used which includes a first metal holder (1, 20) and a second metal holder (3, 28). A source (2, 21) of evaporable gettering metal is accommodated in the first metal holder (1, 20) from which the gettering metal can be released by inductive heating. A gas source (6) including a material having a comparatively high decomposition temperature, which releases gas upon heating, is accommodated in the second metal holder. The second metal holder is connected to an outer surface (7, 30) of the first metal holder in such manner that the second metal holder forms an electric shunt for part of the induction current generated in the first metal holder by the inductive heating.

  • Patent number: 4406972
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a color television display tube, the envelope of which comprises a conical portion (11) and a window portion (12) which are sealed together in a vacuum-tight manner by means of a sealing glass (18). Before these portions are sealed together, a gettering device (21) is positioned inside the envelope of the tube, for example by attachment to the internal magnetic screening cap (17) or to the high-voltage contact (26). The gettering device (21) comprises a source of evaporable gettering metal and a material releasing gas upon heating. The gas-releasing material (5) is protected from the influence of moist air at comparatively high temperatures by means of a layer of metal (6) provided on the grains of the material (5). As a result of this the gettering device (21) is suitable for being assembled in a television display tube before the window (12) and the cone (11) of the tube have been sealed together by means of a sealing glass (18).

  • Patent number: 4306543
Abstract: There is provided a solar collector comprising an absorber, a getter, and a heating element arranged within an evacuated transparent envelope, the heating element being positioned separate and apart from the getter. Associated with the envelope is means to heat the heating element to a temperature of 500.degree. to 2000.degree. C. in order to crack any hydrocarbons formed from gaseous contaminants released by the envelope and the absorber during operation.

  • Patent number: 4128782
Abstract: A body of compressed powder including a gettering material that can be released from the body by heating is held in a getter holder having at least one cavity with a substantially U-shaped cross-section. In order to lock the body in the cavity, at least a part of the inner wall of the cavity has a slight surface unevenness the extent of which is between 0.5 .mu.m and a few tenths of the wall thickness of the holder.
