Publication number: 20160007149Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing information about stations of a communication system, and more particularly information of stations that are located within a defined area. In an embodiment a search is triggered in a location information service for information concerning wireless stations within the defined area. At least one such access entity of the communication system is selected that covers partially or entirely the defined area. A location information request is subsequently generated and broadcast in the selected cells. A response including information concerning wireless stations within the cell area is generated and signalled to the location information service. According to another aspect the system is adapted to provide services for those stations only that have been determined to be located within the defined area.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2015Publication date: January 7, 2016Inventors: Ahti MUHONEN, Jens-Peter STAACK, Timo RANTALAINEN, Jan KÅLL

Patent number: 9107031Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing information about stations of a communication system, and more particularly information of stations (1) that are located within a defined area (5). A search can be triggered in a location information service for information concerning wireless stations within the defined area. At least one such access entity (20, 21, 23, 24) of the communication system is selected that covers partially or entirely the defined area. A location information request is subsequently generated and broadcast in the selected access entities. A response including information concerning wireless stations within the defined area is generated and signalled to the location information service. According to another aspect the system is adapted to provide services for those stations only that have been determined to be located within the defined area.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: NOKIA TECHNOLOGIES OYInventors: Ahti Muhonen, Jens-Peter Staack, Timo Rantalainen, Jan Kåll

Patent number: 8374631Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanism for providing location information regarding mobile terminals, especially regarding WLAN terminals. In order that the known mechanism for locating users of a mobile cellular network could be utilized for locating WLAN terminals, a location service request concerning a WLAN terminal is received and routed by the same network elements that receive and route location service requests concerning users of a mobile cellular network. However, in the case of a WLAN terminal the location service request is diverted to a predetermined network element, where the access point currently serving the WLAN terminal is identified. The location information corresponding to the said access point is then determined, and the location information is returned as the location of the terminal. The location of the serving WLAN access point thus represents the location of the WLAN terminal.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2003Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Jan Kåll, Roman Pichna, Kalle Ahmavaara, Jens Staack

Patent number: 8150419Abstract: A manner of invoking privacy related to user equipment in a telecommunications network, involving sending a location service request from a location service client to a location service center. The location service center sends a privacy request to the user equipment to be located, which prompts the user of the user equipment to accept or reject the specific location service request. The user equipment sends to the location service center a privacy request response. The location service center provides the location information to the requesting client if the location service request is accepted in the privacy response, and rejects the location service request otherwise.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2002Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Ahti Muhonen, Jan Kåll

Patent number: 7945775Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling information provided to a user in a telecommunications network from at least one information provider. The network has identifying information defining the at least one type of information which can be provided to the user. The method comprises the steps of determining the type of information which an information provider proposed to provide to the user; and uses the identifying information and the determined type of information to control if the proposed information can be provided to the user.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2001Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Maanoja, Petri Kokkonen, Jan Kåll, Tomi Varonen, Matti Saarenpää, Mårten Lampinen

Patent number: 7873354Abstract: A method and an apparatus for implementing the method for using and implementing a service-on-demand in a mobile communication system. The services-on-demand are intended to be received by means of a mobile station. The mobile station monitors a cell transmission and receives parts intended for the mobile station from the transmission. In order to use the services-on-demand, in the method the service-on-demand is offered in the cell to all mobile stations located in the cell over a first channel, a registration message (2-2) is transmitted from the mobile station for registering as a user of the service-on-demand over a signalling channel, an acknowledgement (2-4) of the registration, indicating how the service-on-demand is received, is received at the mobile station, and the reception of the service-on-demand is started over the first channel in a manner indicated by the registration acknowledgement.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Jan Kåll

The services-on-demand are intended to be received by means of a mobile station. The mobile station monitors a cell transmission and receives parts intended for the mobile station from the transmission. In order to use the services-on-demand, in the method the service-on-demand is offered in the cell to all mobile stations located in the cell over a fist channel, a registration message (2-2) is transmitted from the mobile station for registering as a user of the service-on-demand over a signalling channel, an acknowledgement (2-4) of the registration, indicating how the service-on-demand is received, is received at the mobile station, and the reception of the service-on-demand is started over the first channel in a manner indicated by the registration acknowledgement.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2005Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Jan Kåll

Patent number: 7142875Abstract: In a system comprising at least two different domains both supporting location services, the Gateway Mobile Location Center routing the location service requests receives a routing address for both domains, i.e., at least two addresses, if the target mobile station has subscription to both domains. In order to select via which domain the attempts should be first made to obtain the location information of the target MS is found out at least in one domain and preferably in both domains.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2001Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Jan Kåll, Veijo Vänttinen, Janne Muhonen
