  • Patent number: 8287735
Abstract: The invention provides a method for the purification of a liquid by membrane distillation comprising: passing a heated vapourising stream of a liquid (retentate stream) through a retentate channel along a porous hydrophobic membrane (10), whereby vapour of the liquid flows via the pores of the membrane to the other side of said membrane, and condensing said vapour on the other side of said membrane to give a distillate stream in a distillate channel (5) which distillate is created by passing the heat of condensation (latent heat) towards a condenser surface (3), said condenser surface forming a non-porous separation between a feed stream of the liquid to be purified and said distillate stream, which feed stream is passed through a feed channel (2) in counter-current with the retentate stream, in which feed channel a space material (4) is arranged whereby at least part of the latent heat is transferred via the condenser surface to the feed stream, and whereby a positive liquid pressure difference is applied be

  • Patent number: 4933073
Abstract: A rotating drum (1) for cooling and separating castings and molding sand has a foraminous liner (27, 8). In a first part (28) thereof there are sand raising vanes (17) between this liner (27) and the closed wall (28) of the drum to raise sand, passing through the perforations in this liner part (28) to spray it over the castings. In a second, more downstream part (8) of the liner this liner part (8) intersects the theoretical sand level (13, 14) to lift the castings from the sand, so as to discharge the castings via liner part (9) and discharge edge (10) separately from the sand. The sand separated from the castings is taken up in a closed end part (5, 7) of the drum (1) having a discrete discharge edge (11) for discharging the sand at the downstream end in a narrow zone. This gives a drum with high cooling and separating capacity and efficiency with the least possible noise and dust generation.

  • Patent number: 4091429
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for magnetic recording which is provided with a layer of a magnetizable material which is provided on a support and has an easy axis of magnetization which is at least substantially perpendicular to the plane of the layer, which layer is suitable to support magnetic domains having a direction of magnetization which is opposite to the direction of magnetization of the remainder of the layer, the device also comprising a device for producing a magnetization field having a field direction perpendicular to the plane of the layer, said layer being destined to cooperate with a recording medium which is relatively movable with respect to the layer.
