Abstract: An injection device includes a cylinder having a cavity for receiving a liquid. A passage is connected to the cavity for inflow and/or outflow of the liquid. The passage can be connected to an injection component. A shut-off valve has a valve body and a flexible sealing ring with an opening. The valve body, proceeding from a release position in which the passage is freed, is at least partially movable through the opening of the sealing ring to a blocking position in which the valve body engages behind the opening so that movement of the valve body to the release position is blocked and the passage is sealed off against proximally directed flow. An adapter body is connected to the cylinder. The shut-off valve is arranged at a proximal end of the adapter body and at a distal end of the cylinder. The device can be used in a syringe.

Abstract: The invention relates to a compound having the formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydroxy, (1-6C)alkoxy or NR.sup.4 R.sup.5, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 being independently hydrogen, (1-6C)alkyl, (3-7C)cycloalkyl, (2-6C)alkenyl, (4-6C)aryl or (5-7C)aralkyl, the aryl groups of which may be optionally substituted with halogen, (1-6C)alkyl or (1-6C)alkoxy;R.sup.2 is a halo atom, (1-8C)acyloxy, --O--C(O)--O-(1-6C)alkyl, --O--C(O)--O-(5-7C)aralkyl, --SR.sup.6, --S(O)R.sup.6, --SeR.sup.6 or --Se(O)R.sup.6, R.sup.6 being (1-6C)alkyl or (4-6C)aryl; andR.sup.3 is --Si(R.sup.7).sub.3, R.sup.7 being independently (1-6C)alkyl or (4-6C)aryl. The compounds of the invention may be used as protective groups or as linkers in solid phase organic chemistry.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for the aerobic purification of waste water in a reactor containing unsupported granular active sludge. The oxygen necessary for maintaining aerobic conditions within the reactor is provided in the form of an oxygen-containing gas. The oxygen-containing gas is preferably introduced into the reactor at such a place that the oxygen-containing gas provides at least some mixing action in the reactor. The invention also provides a reactor suitable for this process.
