  • Publication number: 20050092685
Abstract: The invention relates to a set comprising, on the one hand, a pipette having a pipette orifice and, on the other hand, a cartridge. The cartridge comprises: a housing; a chamber, containing sorbent, provided in the housing; an inlet that connects the chamber to the outside of the housing and that has an inlet orifice on the outside of the housing; an outlet that connects the chamber to the outside of the housing; an inlet closure that is permeable to fluid and impermeable to the sorbent, which inlet closure extends over the entire inlet passage; an outlet closure, such as a mesh, that is permeable to fluid and impermeable to the sorbent, which outlet closure extends over the entire outlet passage; wherein the pipette orifice can be accommodated in the inlet orifice. The invention furthermore relates to a method for applying the sample to a sorbent by means of a pipette.

  • Patent number: 6738625
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus enables automatic radio base station (RBS) rehoming from a first radio network controller (RNC) to a second RNC when the first RNC becomes overloaded and/or automatic resource sharing between/among RNCs when one RNC becomes overloaded. A managing/controlling entity receives load measuring reports from RNCs and analyzes them. If a first RNC is frequently and/or constantly experiencing an overcapacity condition, then an RBS of the RNC may be rehomed to a second RNC without operator intervention. If a first RNC temporarily experiences an overcapacity condition, then the workload of the first RNC may be shared by a second RNC also without operator intervention. When rehoming an RBS or sharing a load of a first RNC, ongoing connections are completed by the first RNC where the connection was initiated, but new connections are (for the rehoming case) or new connections may be (for load sharing cases) initiated using a second RNC.

  • Patent number: 6665262
Abstract: A system and method for distributing the fault management functions throughout a communications network. Each node in the network includes an associated fault agent/configuration agent pair. The fault agent receives alarm information and correlates the alarm information to identify a cause of a fault in the network. The fault agent then determines if correction of the fault can be handled at the current node. If so, the fault agent passes information identifying the fault to the associated configuration agent, which generates reconfiguration data for handling the fault and sends the reconfiguration data to subordinate nodes for implementation. If, on the other hand, the fault agent determines that the fault cannot be handled at the current node, the fault agent passes the alarm data, in summary form, to a higher level fault agent/configuration agent pair for handling at that higher level or for further processing and passing the data up the network until a level is reached at which the fault can be handled.

  • Patent number: 6041228
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing a vendor- and version-independent information model that a cellular telephone base station can use to communicate its capabilities in a plug and play fashion to a network element is disclosed. The information model can also be used to communicate configuration information back to the base station from the network element. The capabilities and configuration information is automatically communicated and utilized, thus reducing the possibility of human operator error in configuring and pre-configuring new or modified base station equipment.

  • Patent number: 5217590
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the injection of a quantitatively defined volume of at least one fluid into a tube or capillary, in particular suitable for capillary electrophoresis systems by immersing at least one end of the tube or capillary in the fluid to be injected in the tube or capillary and generating an overpressure in a space above the surface of the fluid to be injected, wherein said overpressure is generated by means of a syringe device comprising a cylinder and a piston movable in a controlled manner in the cylinder, said cylinder being filled with a suitable gas and being connected via a pressure line to said space above the surface of the fluid to be injected.
