  • Patent number: 8014787
Abstract: For use in a wireless network, systems and methods for identifying radar signals and for giving the wireless network a radar-avoidance capability. The system for identifying radar signals includes: (1) a pulse analyzer, associated with a wireless device, configured to make a determination whether a received pulse is a radar pulse and not a wireless network pulse and (2) a pulse reporter configured to generate, if the determination is positive, a report thereof for transmission over the wireless network. Another system gives the wireless network a radar-avoidance capability and includes: (1) a report receiver configured to receive reports via the wireless network from wireless devices thereof and (2) a report analyzer, associated with the report receiver, configured to analyze relationships among the reports to make a determination whether a sequence of radar pulses exists and, if the determination is positive, generate a radar transmission alert.

  • Patent number: 7548520
Abstract: An apparatus, method and system for organizing a communication system for wireless access. In the method, wireless access points of a wireless network in the system organize themselves such that each wireless access point knows the lowest number of forwardings (e.g., the hoprank) required to send a user data request from a user to a wired backbone LAN of the system. The user initiates communications to transmit the user data request to an access point having a lowest hoprank in the system. The access point with the lowest hoprank may be an access point that is fixedly connected to the system, or an access point that is not fixedly connected to the system, e.g., a floating access point that communicates with users and other fixed or floating access points over a wireless radio link.

  • Patent number: 7336633
Abstract: An access control method for a medium, a media access controller and a wireless communication system incorporating the method or the controller. In one embodiment, the method includes: (1) allowing first and second devices to employ a control channel defined in the medium to identify mutually available ones of a plurality of time and frequency dependent data communication elements defined in the medium and (2) thereafter granting the first and second devices access to the mutually available ones to enable data communication therebetween.

  • Patent number: 7292645
Abstract: The present invention provides a binary transmitter. In one embodiment, the binary transmitter includes a data coder that receives and encodes binary data to be transmitted and a modulator that employs the binary data directly to modulate a carrier wave to yield a stream of broadband RF signals. Also, the binary transmitter includes a header generator that interposes header information into the stream and an RF amplifier that amplifies the stream for transmission via an antenna. A method of transmitting data and a wireless data communication system incorporating the transmitter or the method are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5881372
Abstract: A radio communication device, suitable for use in a portable computer, is capable of operating at any one of a set of common frequencies which are legally permissible in all countries (or a set of countries) and at any frequency on which it detects that a transmission of its own type is being used for a transmission from another device. Thus, users can legally operate the device in different countries, while manufacturers can obtain certification for use in those countries. If the user attempts to select a frequency which is not one of the common frequencies nor detected by transmission, an indication that such frequency is not available is provided to the user.
