    Abstract: A grinding apparatus for dispensing a dose of ground frozen material starting from a frozen block includes a grinding unit for grinding the frozen block in order to provide an amount of ground frozen material and a feeding unit for feeding the frozen block to the grinding unit. In particular, the feeding unit includes a feeding member that is adapted for moving frozen block for a desired predetermined grinding stroke against grinding unit such that a grinding length of block is ground. A grinding unit provides at least one grater and one motor for causing the grater to rotate. In order to obtain a desired weight of the dose, a volume of frozen material is calculated that corresponds to said weight, since the density of the frozen material is known.

    Abstract: Method of positioning a part (43) in a device by means of an actuator (1). The actuator comprises two parts (3, 5) which extend in a main plane and are mutually connected by means of three bridges (7, 9, 11). The bridges can be shortened in respective shortening directions (Y1, Y2, Y3) parallel to said main plane by local heating and subsequent cooling down of the bridges. According to the invention, the shortening directions of the three bridges are parallel, and the two parts of the actuator are rotated relative to one another about an axis of rotation (21, 23) extending perpendicularly to the main plane through alternate shortening of two adjacent bridges (7, 9 or 9, 11) of the three bridges. In this manner, a tensile stress can be built up in the bridges which exceeds a lowered yield point of the material of the bridges when heated, so that relatively high angle of rotation can be achieved between the two parts of the actuator.

    Abstract: A method for reducing calcium overload in cells to prevent the transition from reversible to irreversible injury. The cell surface is treated with an organic polycation selected from the group consisting of protamine, dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, polymyxin B sulfate and polybrene which is capable of altering the cells surface charge sufficiently to eliminate or reduce the influx of calcium resulting from exposure to noxious stimuli. The method may be used both in vivo and in vitro. The method is effective in preventing calcium uptake in a variety of cell injury situations including metabolic inhibition and free radical attack.

    Abstract: Junction box for a cable comprising optical fibers, consisting of elongate flat holders wherein a splice and the remaining fiber lengths of a pair of fiber ends are stored in each holder. Two elongate plates clamp the holders therebetween. Two end plates are fitted to the end faces of the elongate plates. A housing surrounds the holders and the elongate plates. Each end plate is provided with a feedthrough opening and a pull relief for the optical cable. Each holder has two storage spaces, one for each of the remaining fiber lengths, which are interconnected, via an opening to a sidewall, through a recess. The splice is stored in the recess. Two connecting bolts, which keep the two elongate plates and the holder assembly together and which have a diameter larger than or equal to twice the minimum radius of curvature of the fibers to be coupled, pass through the storage spaces.
