  • Patent number: 4743046
Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber with a generally vertical cylinder encasing therein hydraulic liquid and a piston which partitions the interior of the cylinder into two liquid chambers, an upper and lower chamber. Improved damping control is achieved by a circuit forming a connection between the two liquid chambers, a further circuit connecting the reservoir to the lower liquid chamber, each of the two circuits including a controllable first check valve and second check valve, respectively, that can take two states of operation under the action of a control device. The first state resulting in locking the valve in a closed position, cutting off the forward flow through the check valve, and in a second state allowing a free forward flow through the check valve, whereas the check valve in the first state as well as in the second state blocks the reverse flow of both circuits.

  • Patent number: 4583870
Abstract: A hydrodynamic slide bearing unit has two relatively movable surfaces between which there is built up in a lubricant layer at least one load-bearing pressure zone within which the pressure (p) during one revolution in the direction of movement will increase from an initial pressure (p.sub.o) at the forward portion of the pressure zone to a higher pressure (p.sub.m) around the most central part of the pressure zone and decrease again to the initial pressure (p.sub.o), the slide bearing having at least one feed opening for lubricant at or ahead of that portion of the pressure zone which is foremost as counted in the direction of movement or flow, and an outtake means for collection of lubricant with a pressure higher than the initial pressure (p.sub.o), the lubricant being fed back via a return means to the lubricant layer through a feed opening, whereby the pressure difference will produce a pump effect for circulation of lubricant through the lubricant layer.

  • Patent number: 4154461
Abstract: A suspension system for a vehicle having frame, a wheel and a movable support for said wheel is disclosed. The suspension system comprises a first shock absorbing member functionally connected to the wheel support. The first shock absorbing member is connected in parallel to a first spring means which is also connected to the wheel support. The first spring means and first shock absorbing member are connected in series to a second shock absorbing member which in turn is functionally connected to the vehicle frame. A second spring means, preferably having a lower spring stiffness than said first spring means, is employed in a parallel configuration with said second shock absorbing member and can either be in parallel with said first shock absorbing member and first spring means or in series with these latter elements. The first shock absorbing member further contains upper and lower fluid chambers separated by a piston for further control.
