  • Patent number: 8897309
Abstract: A telecommunication system and method for controlling the establishment of payload connections through media gateways. The system receives and aggregates control orders from a plurality of telecommunication nodes such as media gateway controllers. The system uses knowledge of resources in the network to optimize the path of the payload connection. The system also sends control orders to a given media gateway in order to establish the payload connection. The system may be connected to a plurality of other instances of the same type of system in a hierarchical manner.

Date of Patent: November 25, 2014
Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)

  • Patent number: 7263092
Abstract: The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with an intermediate signaling protocol that supports narrowband inter-domain bearer independent call control (BICC) signaling over a broadband network. For each setup request carried by the BICC signaling protocol, a seize device message is forwarded from a narrowband call control node to an intermediate entity responsible for converting the seize device message into a broadband endpoint request message. The interworking entity obtains broadband endpoint information from a selected broadband endpoint and creates a dynamic device representing the selected broadband endpoint. The dynamic device is used in the establishment of inter-domain switch connections.

  • Patent number: 6937596
Abstract: A hybrid arrangement allows an existing circuit switched telephony network to be deployed on a packet switched network. The circuit switched underlying transport network is replaced with that of an IP based package switched network, while the circuit switched infrastructure, such as terminals, telephone exchanges and the like are retained. Both a subscriber and a local telephone exchange are connected to, and separated by, an IP based packet switched network, such as the Internet. Signalling between the subscriber and exchange are effected using a standard user to network protocol, such as V5.1 for PSTN and ISDN BRI or DSS1 for ISDN PRI. This standard user network is overlaid on an IP based network protocol, such as TCP or UDP on IP.

  • Publication number: 20040131053
Abstract: The invention provides a hybrid arrangement, which allows an existing circuit switched telephony network to be deployed on a packet switched network. The circuit switched underlying transport network is replaced with that of an IP based package switched network (30), while the circuit switched infrastructure, such as terminals, telephone exchanges and the like are retained. In preferred embodiments of the invention, both a subscriber (10, 11, 20, 21) and a local telephone exchange (40, 50) are connected to, and separated by, an IP based packet switched network such as the Internet (30). Signalling between the subscriber (10, 11, 20, 21) and exchange (40, 50) are effected using a standard user to network protocol, such as V5.1 for PSTN and ISDN BRI or DSS1 for ISDN PRI. This standard user to network protocol is overlaid on an IP based network protocol, such as TCP or UDP on IP.
