    Abstract: Welding joint (18,22) connecting workpieces (19,20,24,29) having a throughlet (25) comprising a weld (21,34) wherein a backing sleeve (10,28) is held within the workpieces (19,20,24,29) in the region of the weld. The welding joint comprises a partition layer (15,33) of a non-weldable material between the workpieces (19,20,24,29), the weld (21,34) and the backing sleeve (10,28), resulting in a welding joint easy to establish and of improved strength and fatigue resistance.
