  • Patent number: 9273503
Abstract: A locking hinge including barrel members with a cylindrical female recess and a multi-sided center bore. A medial barrel member has a center bore and first and second cylindrical male portions rotatably inserted into one of the female recesses, and a multi-sided center bore, such that the bores are in axial alignment. First and second hinge pins have a cylindrical portion and a multi-sided portion slidably inserted through the aligned multi-sided center bores. A spring disposed in the medial barrel member urges the hinge pins apart. When in a fully locked configuration, the multi-sided portions of the hinge pins engage the multi-sided center bore of a male portion and a barrel member; when in an unlocked configuration, at least one or both of the hinge pins is depressed such that its multi-sided portion is disengaged from the multi-sided center bore of the barrel member through which it is slidably inserted.

  • Patent number: 8656558
Abstract: A locking hinge with a sliding hinge pin that selectively places the hinge in either a locked or unlocked configuration. The hinge pin includes cylindrical and contoured upper and lower exterior parts that cooperate with contoured upper and lower portions of the interior wall of the lower and upper sleeve members of the hinge. When in the locked configuration the lower contoured part of the hinge pin engages the contoured portion of the lower sleeve member and the upper contoured part engages the contoured portion of the interior wall of the upper sleeve, and in the unlocked configuration the lower contoured part of the hinge pin does not engage the contoured portion of the interior wall of the lower sleeve and the upper contoured part of the hinge pin does not engage the contoured portion of the interior wall of the upper sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5833191
Abstract: A holder for various different objects is described, which holder cooperates with a gripping device of the vise-grip type in which the position at which a pair of jaws lock relative to one another is adjustable. The holder includes a simple orientation change mechanism configured to enable a user to change the orientation of a special connector designed to hold differing objects. The connector includes a pair of jaws having concave facing gripping surfaces. A resistance varying structure is included to enable the user to vary the resistance to orientation change that might be expected from the different weight of objects. Thus, the holder is quite versatile with respect to the type of object that can be held by the same, which versatility is added to the versatility of the vise-grip type pliers with which it is designed to be used.

  • Patent number: 5690416
Abstract: A flashlight holder is described which can be used with differently sized flashlights. The holder includes vise grip pliers for gripping structure adjacent a location it is desired to illuminate. A connector of the holder includes a collar for one size flashlight, as well as two rings for flashlights of other sizes. A bolt is threaded within the collar and acts as an adjustment mechanism for connection to any one of the differently sized flashlights. An interface device which secures the connector to the vise grip pliers facilitates the holding of flashlights or other objects of different weights. Its construction includes a mating ball and socket structure cap and a housing for a bolt on another adjustment mechanism provided as part of the vise grip pliers. The housing and cap are so secured together by bolts that tightening or loosening them changes the resistance to movement of the ball within the socket and movement of the interface device relative to the vise grip pliers.

  • Patent number: 5168780
Abstract: A tool driver with a detachable handle for loosening and tightening fasteners or drilling holes in hard-to-reach locations. The tool driver contains a drive shaft and a mechanical means for converting force applied to the drive shaft to motion of a transverse tool attachment. A second tool attachment is located at one end of the drive shaft permitting a tool to be directly driven. A detachable handle is provided for stabilizing and controlling the tool driver. Additionally, the detachable handle is a container for a power source used to power a luminous element which illuminates the workpiece. Moreover, the detachable handle includes a means for attaching tools, so once detached, it serves as a device for driving tools in a manual fashion having a light.

  • Patent number: 3994476
Abstract: A hoist is described which includes a windlass for taking up and paying out a line which operates a block and tackle. The windlass is provided with a brake which is arranged to operate automatically to prevent unwanted paying out of the block and tackle line whenever a load is on the block and tackle. The brake operating mechanism includes a load sensing lever arm mounted for limited pivotal movement in response to a load being on the block and tackle, and linkage connecting such lever arm with a brake actuator for transmitting its motion to the actuator. The actuator is adapted to respond to such motion by applying the brake on the windlass to prevent its rotation in response to the force of the load.
