  • Patent number: 4142996
Abstract: A method for manufacturing metal oxide varistors with an extremely homogeneous dispersion of metal oxides is disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, nitrates of zinc and certain metal additives are heated to form a hydrated solution which is further heated to form a dehydrated melt, which is further heated to form an extremely homogeneous dispersion of the metal oxides. Tin and antimony are added as oxides rather than nitrates. This process eliminates the need for ball milling.
