  • Patent number: 6968113
Abstract: A method is provided for sealing a container into which optical fibers are fed. A portion of the optical fibers is accommodated between two strips which are sealed together by applying heat and/or pressure. The strips are then placed in an opening of the container and the container is sealed. The strips, which may be made of plastic, support the fibers while providing an excellent seal.

  • Publication number: 20050226586
Abstract: A device for cleaving an optical fibre includes a fixing mechanism to fix a fixing element to the optical fibre, and a cleaving mechanism to cleave the optical fibre. The fixing element may be a ferrule, and the fixing element may be fixed to the fibre such that the fibre extends through the fixing element. The cleaving mechanism cleaves the fibre preferably when the fixing element has been fixed to the fibre. The cleaving device may be a hand-held, and hand-operated, tool. The device may enable the possibility of automatic preset positioning and/or orienting of the cleaved fibre end face (which may be angled to the axis of the fibre) with respect to the fixing element. Attachments may be provided for holding the fibre and fixing element during the cleaving operation and for holding a connector body while the fixing element with the cleaved fibre is inserted into the connector.

  • Publication number: 20050031272
Abstract: A device (1) for sealingly enclosing at least one optical circuit (10), the device comprising a container (3) and a humidity control means (4) accommodated in the container (3). The device is characterised by temperature control means (5, 6) arranged in the container (3). The container (3) is preferably flexible.

  • Publication number: 20050018948
Abstract: A method of assembling a fibre optic circuit (12) comprises the steps of: providing fibre optic components connected to optical fibres (10) having fibre ends, arranging the fibre optic components on a support, routing the fibre ends in accordance with a predetermined circuit configuration, and splicing and/or connecting the fibre ends so as to complete the circuit, wherein a plurality of fibre ends are spliced substantially simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20050018982
Abstract: A method of splicing optical fibres includes affixing a first fibre to a first keying element having a particular radial orientation, inserting the keying element in a support which receives the keying element only in a specific radial orientation, cleaving the fibre affixed to the inserted keying element at a predetermined angle (?) relative to the support to form an angled fibre end face, removing the keying element from the support, inserting the keying element into a splicing body which receives the keying element only in a specific radial orientation such that the angled fibre end face has a predictable radial orientation with respect to the splice body, and repeating the above operations for a second fibre and a second keying element, whereby the first angled fibre end face and the second angled fibre end face abut in a substantially parallel orientation.

  • Publication number: 20040240830
Abstract: A device (1) for splicing optical fibres (20, 21) comprises a body (2), a first alignment element (3a) having at least one groove (6) for accommodating optical fibres, a second alignment element (3b) which can be brought towards the first alignment element (3a) to enclose optical fibres accommodated in the at least one groove (6), and a clamping element (11) for clamping the alignment elements together, The clamping element (11) is rotatable relative to the alignment elements (3a, 3b) from a first position in which the alignment elements are substantially loose to a second position in which the alignment elements are clamped together.

  • Publication number: 20040136678
Abstract: A method is provided for sealing a container into which optical fibres (10) are fed. A portion of the optical fibres (10) is accommodated between two strips (3, 4) which are sealed together by applying beat and/or pressure. The strips are then placed in an opening of the container and the container is sealed. The strips (3, 4), which may be made of plastic, support the fibres (10) while providing an excellent seal.
