  • Publication number: 20230365639
Abstract: The present invention relates to development of innovative antibiotics against drug resistant bacteria, viruses, protozoa, fungi or worms based on coupling of lipopeptides to fragments of human defensins to achieve high antimicrobial efficacy and biofilm degradation as well as low development of resistance while preserving the natural microbiota thus not only eradicating bacterial, viral, protozoal, fungal or worm infection but preventing a number of disorders associated with antibiotic treatment e.g. infection with C. difficile'.

  • Publication number: 20220213156
Abstract: The present invention relates to new peptides the amino acid sequences of which are derived from HD-5, for use in the treatment and/or prevention of Herpesviridae infections, in particular for treating and/or preventing a Betaherpesviridae infection, such as a HCMV-infection.

  • Publication number: 20220064217
Abstract: The present invention relates to new peptides derived from HD-5 or HNP-4 having antimicrobial activity for use in modulating the microbiome of intestines, the lungs, the skin, the mouth, the eye, the ear, the vagina or other bodily surfaces and/or for use as an antimicrobial agent in a human or other mammals, as well as to medicaments containing these peptides.

  • Publication number: 20190111107
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for modulating the intestinal microbiota by administering one or more defensins and/or GLP-1/GLP-1 analogs and methods for prevention or treatment of gut inflammation by oral administration of one or more defensins. GLP-1 analogs such as Liraglutide, as well as mammalian and poultry alfa and beta defensins can cause a change in the composition of the microbiota and metabolome in the intestine and can therefore be used to treat or prevent gut inflammation, colorectal cancer, metabolic syndrome, obesity, prediabetes and diabetes or as lean growth promoters in the meat production.

  • Publication number: 20170073371
Abstract: A novel antimicrobial peptide includes at least eight successive amino acids, the peptide exhibiting a sequence having the following formula: Ter1-X1—B1—X2—B2—X3—Z1—Z2—X4-Ter2. The peptide can moreover also have modified termini. The peptide is believed to be effective for the treatment or prevention of inflammatory and infectious diseases that are caused by microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi.

  • Publication number: 20160015781
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a recombinant E. coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) cell transformed with a nucleic acid coding for a defensin protein or a derivative thereof. The invention is further directed to a pharmaceutical composition comprising this cell and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier as well as a method of producing a recombinant E. coli Nissle 1917 cell and its use in the treatment of Crohn's disease.

  • Publication number: 20110319284
Abstract: A method is described for determining a predisposition of an organism for Crohn's Disease, especially Crohn's Disease of the small intestine. In this context, in a biological specimen of an organism, the presence or the absence of SNP's in at least one gene is determined, which codes for a protein associated with the Writ signaling pathway in Paneth cells. The gene, in this instance, may be selected from TCF4, LRP5, LRP6, GSK3A, GSK3B and TCF7. The present methods and systems also relate to primers and allele-specific probes to prove the presence or the absence of an SNP, diagnostic kits which have at least one such primer or one such allele-specific probe, as well as the use of certain SNP's for determining a predisposition of an organism for Crohn's Disease. The present method and systems also relate to a method for the differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel diseases, for distinguishing Crohn's Disease and the other respective inflammatory or infectious intestinal diseases.
