  • Publication number: 20080010158
Abstract: A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.

  • Patent number: 7310605
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for a method in a portable device for transliterating text. An image of the text is generated using a camera function in the portable device. The image is sent with an identification of a source language and a target language to a transliteration service using a wireless communications link. A response is received from the transliteration service, wherein the response contains a transliteration of the text in the target language. The transliteration is then presented on the portable device. The presentation may be, for example, text displayed on the portable device or in the form of speech presented audibly to the user.

  • Publication number: 20070276667
Abstract: A system and method for using semantic analysis to configure a voice reader is presented. A text file includes a plurality of text blocks, such as paragraphs. Processing performs semantic analysis on each text block in order to match the text block's semantic content with a semantic identifier. Once processing matches a semantic identifier with the text block, processing retrieves voice attributes that correspond to the semantic identifier (i.e. pitch value, loudness value, and pace value) and provides the voice attributes to a voice reader. The voice reader uses the text block to produce a synthesized voice signal with properties that correspond to the voice attributes. The text block may include semantic tags whereby processing performs latent semantic indexing on the semantic tags in order to match semantic identifiers to the semantic tags.

  • Publication number: 20070169204
Abstract: A system and method for dynamic security access. A dynamic security system receives a resource request from a user. The dynamic security system computes a dynamic user security value using a user security formula and user attribute values corresponding to the user. In addition, the dynamic security system computes a resource security value using a resource security formula and resource attribute values corresponding to the resource. Once computed, the dynamic security system compares the dynamic user security value with the resource security value and, if the dynamic user security value is greater than or equal to the resource security value, the dynamic security system grants resource to the user.

  • Publication number: 20070094711
Abstract: A method, system, apparatus, or computer program product is presented for securing computational resources in a data processing system. A first user uses a first computational device, and a user security level is associated with the first user. Likewise, a second user uses a second computational device, and a user security level is associated with the second user. The computational resources on the first computational device are automatically reconfigured based on the second user security level of the second user. A computational security level may be assigned to a computational resource on the first computational device, and the computational security level is dynamically adjusted in response to detected network activity by the second computational device that is being used by the second user. Modified security-related parameters for reconfiguring computational resources on the first computational device are reconfigured based on the adjusted computational security level.

  • Publication number: 20070083915
Abstract: A method, system, apparatus, or computer program product is presented for performing authorization operations with respect to a set of computational resources in a data processing system. Each person that accesses resources in a data processing system is associated with a personal proximity device, such as an electronic badge, the presence of which can be detected by appropriate detecting devices near the computational resources of the data processing system. A first person is permitted to access an authorized subset of computational resources, and the location of the first person can be determined by the detecting devices. At some point in time, the presence of a second person is detected and the corresponding location is determined. A spatial relationship between the locations of the first person and the second person is computed, e.g., a distance, the authorized privileges of the first person are modified based on the computed spatial relationship.

  • Patent number: 7130391
Abstract: An automated method, system and computer instructions for users to visually navigate telephone call trees are disclosed. A caller can connect to an automated telephone answering service, and download the service's call tree. The caller can view a display with the call tree, and modify or rearrange the order in which the menu options of the call tree are displayed. The user can then store the modified call tree for use in the future. Responsive to the selection of a specified node in the displayed call tree, an automated process can create a macro or similar set of software instructions, which can be invoked by the calling device during a subsequent connection to the automated telephone answering system associated with the subject call tree, in order to enter a queue associated with the selected node that enables the user to interact with the selected node.

  • Patent number: 7124095
Abstract: A method and implementing system are provided in which merchants are enabled to designate re-seller return locations to customers for returned items. In an exemplary embodiment, a merchant is notified that a customer wishes to return an item purchased. The merchant then sends the customer a return label for the returned item containing the address of the re-seller for the merchant. The re-seller then notifies the merchant when the item has been received and the merchant then credits the account of the customer for the returned item. In a second exemplary embodiment, upon receipt of notice from the customer of the return, the merchant then makes the item available for an auction purchase to a number of bidders. When a winning bid is known to the merchant, the return address of the winning bidder is then sent to the customer for use in returning the purchased item.

  • Patent number: 6918066
Abstract: The present invention is a method to develop and test the WML/HTML applications, and in particular web sites, on a multitude of user agents/browsers at the same time. The user selects the browsers in which the user has an interest. The method executes the web site file on the selected browsers and then displays on a virtual screen, screen shots of the file as viewed on different browsers. The user can use this information to modify their HTML/WML source code and run the code again through the program and view the changes in the output. The present invention can incorporate a WML/HTML editor, which will allow the user to make changes on-line and recheck their results. This method receives a HTML/WML file, selects a browser on which to display the file, edit the displayed output to the file and displays the edited version of the file on the screen. This process can be repeated for a number of browsers.

  • Patent number: 6901585
Abstract: A method, program and system for providing access to alternate formats within an electronic document are provided. The invention comprises parsing a web page and creating a document object model (DOM), and then parsing the alternate format attribute of an image element within the DOM. The browser then displays the web page containing an image (or images) according to the default settings of the browser. A user interface is specified which allows the user to select alternate formats for the default image. This user interface may be in the form of a pop up menu that is presented to the user in response to an input command, such as a right mouse click on the default image. The user can then select an alternate format which replaces the original image in the web page. Alternate formats may include text, audio, or tactile formats.

  • Publication number: 20050096946
Abstract: A system and method for automatically and dynamically adjusting travel arrangements based on changes to a traveler's itinerary are provided. With the system and method, a traveler makes initial travel arrangements and stores information regarding these travel arrangements in a travel itinerary database. The itinerary is then registered with a dynamic itinerary monitoring system. The dynamic itinerary monitoring system monitors all registered active itineraries by comparing information gathered regarding the current travel conditions of the traveler to the itinerary information stored in the travel itinerary database. If there are discrepancies between the current travel conditions and the established itinerary, the dynamic itinerary monitoring system determines how to resolve these discrepancies based on a traveler defined rule set.
