  • Patent number: 8191385
Abstract: An evaporator, applicable to a two-stage expansion cooling system, is used for receiving a high-pressure liquid working fluid. The evaporator includes a thermal-conductive block having a channel system. The channel system includes a high-pressure channel, a low-pressure channel, and a second stage expansion channel. The second stage expansion channel has an input end and an output end. The input end is communicated with the high-pressure channel. The output end is communicated with the low-pressure channel, and has a cross-sectional area smaller than that of the low-pressure channel. The high-pressure liquid working fluid flows into the thermal-conductive block from the high-pressure channel, and then enters the second stage expansion channel through the input end. A part of the high-pressure liquid working fluid flowing out of the output end expands into a saturated low-pressure liquid working fluid and enters the low-pressure channel.

  • Patent number: 6929058
Abstract: The present invention discloses a cold plate with vortex generator for fluid going through defined an inlet and an outlet according to the flowing directions of the fluid, comprising: a base having a groove, one end of the groove is connected to the inlet and another end is connected to the outlet; a body installed on the base; at least one vortex generator mounted on a surface of the body toward the groove of the base, wherein two unparallel and symmetrical ribs form the vortex generator, one end of the unparallel ribs is a contraction end with a shorter gap, another end is an expansion end with a longer gap, coolant can pass through the gap between the ribs, due to each rib having a sharp portion, an appearance of the rib is a triangle geometric figure. The vortexes increase the liquid mixture and improve the heat transfer on the cold plate, but not cause much pressure drop, therefore the heat transfer of the entire system is more efficient.

  • Patent number: 6578627
Abstract: A new fin pattern of a ribbed vortex generator for use in an air conditioner or heat exchanger. It has multiple protruding turbulent prisms placed around a round tube on a radiation fin. Each protruding turbulent prism is strip rib-shaped 3D structure with one end higher and the other end lower. Each of the multiple protruding turbulent prisms is placed around the round tube at proper intervals, and oriented to the direction that fluid flows. The higher ends of a first pair of prisms are placed on the front end entrance of the round tube and the higher ends of a second pair of prisms are placed on the exit, which improves the heat transfer but causes little pressure drop-off.

  • Patent number: 6349761
Abstract: A fin-tube heat exchanger with a vortex generator is disclosed. The heat exchanger includes at least one heat transfer tube extending therethrough. A vortex generator is formed on the fin and includes a plurality of protuberance ribs projected from the fin and centralized with the heat transfer tube. An air flow inlet is defined between adjacent two of the protuberance ribs and an air flow outlet is defined between other adjacent two of the protuberance ribs. The air flow is guided from the air flow inlet, through channels defined between the vortex generator and the at least one heat transfer tube, and passes out of the air flow outlet, thereby speeding the air flow and promoting the heat transfer efficiency of a stagnation area behind the tube, and generating vortexes at the protuberance ribs and the air flow outlet for draining outer air into the surface for better air mixing and promoting the heat transfer efficiency of the fin.
