  • Publication number: 20200187962
Abstract: A method for assembling an orthopaedic surgical instrument includes attaching a first lever to a first shell of a handle. The method also includes attaching a second lever to the first shell of the handle. The method also includes inserting a first tip of a leaf spring into a slot of the first lever. The method also includes inserting a second tip of the leaf spring into a slot of the second lever. The method also includes securing a second shell to the first shell to form the handle.

  • Patent number: 10568644
Abstract: An orthopaedic surgical instrument assembly includes a system handle configured to clamp a broach and femoral stem trial assembly. The system handle includes a clamp lever and a release lever both pivotally coupled to the system handle, and a leaf spring connecting the clamp lever and the release lever. When the release lever is moved from an unclamped position to a clamped position, the leaf spring is put in tension, and the clamp lever engages a flange of the broach, securing the broach to the system handle. Methods of assembling the system handle are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 10201357
Abstract: A surgical instrument including a customized patient-specific guide block is disclosed. The customized patient-specific guide block includes a first surface, a bone-facing surface, a second surface positioned opposite the first surface and the bone-facing surface, and a guide pin hole extending between the second surface and the bone-facing surface. The first surface has a customized prosthesis-specific negative contour shaped to match a corresponding contour of a prosthetic component, and the customized prosthesis-specific negative contour includes a concave surface shaped to match a convex surface of the corresponding contour of the prosthetic component. A method of performing an orthopedic surgical procedure is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9820821
Abstract: A method of fabricating a customized patient-specific guide block is disclosed. The method includes generating a image of a patient's bony anatomy and an implanted prosthetic component secured to the patient's bony anatomy, identifying landmarks on the patient's bony anatomy and the prosthetic component, selecting a revision surgical instrument based the image and the landmarks, and manufacturing the customized patient-specific guide block including a customized prosthesis-specific negative contour shaped to match a corresponding contour of the implanted prosthetic component.

  • Patent number: 9730706
Abstract: A method of using an orthopedic surgical instrument assembly that includes an instrument handle configured to clamp a broach and femoral stem trial assembly. A depth stop is configured to removably couple to the instrument handle. When the broach and femoral stem trial are advanced into a medullary canal of a patient's femur, a substantially planar proximal surface of the depth stop is configured to engage the distal surface of the femur, determining the depth of the broach in the medullary canal. The proximal surface of the depth stop is parallel to the joint line, defining an oblique angle to the anatomical axis of the femur. The depth stop may be attached to the instrument handle at a number of positions to control the depth of the broach. The assembly may include a spacer plate removably coupled to the depth stop that distalizes the broach in the medullary canal.
