  • Patent number: 7327708
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing a multimedia transmission from a content source to an end user over a link. The wireless content switch comprising an upstream port for receiving one or more data packets and for transmitting one or more status to a content source, a downstream port for transmitting the one or more data packets and for receiving one or more status from an end user, at least one processing unit coupled to the upstream and down stream ports, and memory for storing the one or more data packets responsive to receiving the data packets. Optimization code is stored in the memory, the optimization code, when executed, receiving at least one data packet, transmitting the data packet, receiving status information, transmitting status information, determining quality of service assigned to the end user, determining session specific status for the end user, and transmitting the quality of service and session specific status.

  • Publication number: 20030137948
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for transmitting packet data over a wireless network to a mobile station is presented herein. Packet data are received at a wireless content switch that is part of the wireless data network. The wireless content switch is equipped to detect lost packets, lost acknowledgments, and take appropriate remedial action, without invoking the congestion control and avoidance mechanisms of the transmission control protocol.

  • Publication number: 20030092392
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the transmission of data packets is presented herein. A wireless content switch is placed in a wireless packet data network and receives signals indicating whether the wireless clients are experiencing conditions indicative of losing data packets. Wherein the foregoing conditions are detected, the wireless content switch controls the transmission rate of further data packets by reducing a window size parameter in an acknowledgment signal transmitted by the wireless client. The window size can be reduced progressively, either on a linear or exponential basis.

  • Publication number: 20030063581
Abstract: A system and method for seamless interaction between a wireless local network (WLAN) and a wireless packet data network is presented herein. A wireless content switch is placed between the WLAN and wireless packet data network. The wireless content switch authenticates the wireless clients of the WLAN and assists nodes in the wireless packet data in authenticating the wireless client.
