  • Publication number: 20230128373
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for preparing biopolymer particles, said method comprising a membrane emulsification of a dispersed phase into a continuous phase wherein the dispersed phase comprises the biopolymer in a solvent, and wherein passing the dispersed phase through the membrane forms an emulsion of the biopolymer in the continuous phase; and a phase inversion with an anti-solvent to form particles of the biopolymer; wherein prior to (b), the emulsion is cooled to a temperature, T1. Also provided are biopolymer particles obtained from the method.

  • Publication number: 20140148407
Abstract: The invention provides an aqueous gel comprising: a) from 0.5 to 5 wt % dispersed modified cellulose biopolymer, wherein the modification consists of the cellulose having its C6 primary alcohols oxidised to carboxyl moieties (acid/COOH—) on 10 to 70% of the glucose units and substantially all the remainder of the C6 positions occupied by unmodified primary alcohols; b) a water-soluble or water-miscible organic non-solvent for the modified cellulose biopolymer; c) 0 to 10 wt % non-surfactant electrolyte, and d) water; in which the aqueous gel comprises less than 3 wt % oil phase ingredients. The aqueous gels of the invention offer excellent tactile properties, in particular superior skin feel and reduced stickiness. Furthermore, the gels have thixotropic properties, allowing their usage in pumpable or sprayable formats. They also provide sufficient structure for the suspension of a variety of particulate materials.

  • Patent number: 8450260
Abstract: A structured aqueous detergent composition comprising modified cellulose and surfactant characterized in that the composition comprises: a) 0.2 to 10 wt %, preferably 0.4 to 7 wt %, anionic surfactant or zwitterionic surfactant or mixtures thereof, b) 0.5 to 5 wt %, preferably 1 to 2 wt %, dispersed modified cellulose biopolymer, wherein the modification consists of the cellulose having its C6 primary alcohols oxidized to carboxyl moieties (acid/COOH—) on 10 to 70% of the glucose units and substantially all the remainder of the C6 positions occupied by unmodified primary alcohols, c) 0 to 10 wt % non-surfactant electrolyte; d) 0 to 15 wt % other conventional detergent composition additives e) balance water. The invention also provides a method to manufacture the composition.

  • Patent number: 6051734
Abstract: A process for the optical resolution of racemic 3-(p-chlorophenyl)glutaramide (GAM) into its R isomer R--COOH and its S isomer S--COOH, which process includes the steps of either:(1) reacting racemic 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-glutaramide dissolved in a suitable solvent with S-(-)-.alpha.-methylbenzylamine of the formula H.sub.2 N--S'(2) precipitating out of the solution of step (1) R--CO.sub.2.sup.-.H.sub.3.sup.+ N--S';(3) dissolving the precipitate of step (2) in water, with the addition of a suitable acid; and(4) precipitating out of the solution of step (3) R--COOH; or(5) reacting racemic -3-(p-chlorophenyl)-glutaramide dissolved in a suitable solvent with R-(+)-.alpha.-methylbenzylamine of the formula H.sub.2 N--R';(6) precipitating out of the solution of step (5) S--CO.sub.2.sup.-.H.sub.3.sup.+ N--R';(7) dissolving the precipitate of step (6) in water, with the addition of a suitable acid, and(8) precipitating out of the solution of step (7) S--COOH.
