Abstract: Locking or unlocking of a user input of a portable device is detected from the way in which a user has stroked her finger on a touch screen. The stroke is checked for two different determinations which require that the touch screen is touched according to a predetermined track and with a force pattern that has at least one substantial change so as to avoid the need to provide the apparatus with any mechanical buttons at all while providing user-reproducible indication of locking or unlocking of the user input with the touch screen.

Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a base element, a key top, a single dome switch, and a capacitive sensing system. The key top is configured to pivot in relation to the base element. The key top has a center area and a peripheral area. The single dome switch is between the base element and the key top. The single dome switch is configured to provide tactile feedback in response to a depression of the key top. The capacitive sensing system is configured to sense a capacitance corresponding to a distance between a portion of the peripheral area and the base element.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a portable electronic device. The portable electronic device includes a housing and electronic circuitry. The housing includes a plurality of housing sections and the electronic circuitry is mounted in the housing. The plurality of housing sections are adapted to be re-oriented relative to each other into at least four different positions. Each of the at least four different positions is adapted to provide a different mode of use.

Abstract: A latch release for allowing two latched members to be unlatched from each other. The latch release includes a bubble body comprised of an elastic material. The bubble body is adapted to deform such that depressing of a first section of the bubble body in a first direction deforms a second section of the bubble body to push the latched members apart.
