Patent number: 8359349Abstract: A system for uploading content includes a sender capable of sending an upload request, where the upload request comprises a request to upload content from the sender to a recipient. The system also includes a network entity, such as the recipient, capable of operating an upload agent. The upload agent, in turn, is capable of receiving the upload request, and thereafter determining an upload schedule relating to the time and/or manner of uploading the content. The sender can then be capable of uploading the content to the recipient in accordance with the upload schedule. The network entity can be further capable of recovering an upload session that has encountered an interruption.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2004Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Janne La. Aaltonen, Ari Hännikäinen, Ahti Muhonen, Antti-Pentti Vainio

Patent number: 8023966Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are presented for downloading content to a mobile terminal, during periods when the mobile terminal is outside of the home network; i.e. when the terminal is roaming. The invention provides for downloading of the content without utilizing the cellular network, thereby, circumventing the additional surcharges that may be associated with providing for downloading outside of the home network environment. In addition, the invention provides for methods and systems that may be implemented automatically, without the user having to interface with the device or system to implement the change in download techniques. Also, the content can be downloaded during normal download schedules so that the user is not adversely affected by their travel schedule and can be assured scheduled program downloads throughout the travel period.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2004Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Janne La. Patent number: 7836321Abstract: A mobile telephone handset (1) has its circuitry (11) to be driven by a rechargeable battery (17). The handset can to perform a data processing operation such as a download or a memory defragmentation, which requires battery power over a considerable period of time and a battery sensor (20) is coupled to the circuitry for indicating whether the battery has sufficient capability to complete the data operation. The circuitry (11) is configured to cease the data processing operation in the event that the battery is indicated to have insufficient capability to complete the operation. A battery charging sensor (19) indicates when an external battery charger is connected and the download or defragmention process is preferably carried out using the power of the charger rather than the battery.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2004Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Janne La. Patent number: 7721104Abstract: A system is provided for downloading pushed content includes a terminal capable of receiving service loading content that identifies download content and has a digital signature. The terminal is capable of authenticating the service loading content based upon the digital signature, and if the service loading content is authenticated, pulling the download content to the terminal. In this regard, the terminal is capable of authenticating the service loading content, and pulling the download content, in response to receiving the service loading content and independent of interaction from a user of the terminal. The terminal can also be capable of determining if an interruption occurs in receiving the download content such that the terminal receives less than the entire download content. And if an interruption occurs, the terminal can be capable of recovering the download content such that the terminal receives the plurality of data packets.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2003Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Juha H. Salo, Janne La. Aaltonen, Guido Cugi

Publication number: 20090233587Abstract: A method and system for transmitting data to a device is described. The method includes steps of comparing, in a server, a list of capabilities of the server against a list of capabilities of a mobile terminal and creating a list of capabilities in the server and not in the mobile terminal. The method and system wirelessly transmit, to the mobile terminal, a request to confirm the capabilities of the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal receives the request and the list of capabilities and compares the list of capabilities to current capabilities of the mobile terminal and then wirelessly transmits data identifying its capabilities to the server, the data including information of new capabilities of the mobile terminal. The server then updates the list of capabilities of the mobile terminal based on the information of new capabilities.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2009Publication date: September 17, 2009Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventors: Ahti Muhonen, Juha H. Publication number: 20090111433Abstract: A method and system for transmitting (10) a multimedia message, wherein a multimedia message to be transmitted is processed by dividing the multimedia message into at least a first message portion and a second message portion. The first message portion is transmitted to a multimedia message service control element (70), and the second message portion is transmitted to a media charger server element (50). A receiver terminal (20) is notified about the transmission of the multimedia message. The transmission of the first message portion from the multimedia message service control element (70) to the receiver terminal (20) is requested, and the transmission of the second message portion from the media charger server (50) element to the receiver terminal (20) is requested. At the receiver terminal (20) the first message portion and the second message portion are combined for obtaining the multimedia message transmitted.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2005Publication date: April 30, 2009Inventors: Ahti Muhonen, Juha H. Publication number: 20060293077Abstract: A terminal, system, method, and computer program product are provided that are capable of allocating memory for content storage in the terminal. Content may be stored as either fixed or replaceable content. Storing some content as replaceable content enables a service provider to take advantage of favorable network connections to download content that is not to be viewed by the user until a later date, while not preventing the user from being able to store other content if desired. While replaceable content may be stored in the storage element in the terminal, the replaceable content typically does not reserve memory space. As such, other content items may overwrite the replaceable content if necessary due to insufficient open memory space to store the other content items. If replaceable content has been overwritten by other content, the replaceable content will typically be downloaded again when memory space becomes available.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventors: Janne La Aaltonen, Petri Hyysalo, Arto Kiiskinen
