  • Patent number: 6149491
Abstract: A doll includes a body and a head, two legs and two arms, each movably attached to the body. The doll includes a mechanism connected with the head, with each of the legs, and with the arms. The mechanism is configured to displace the legs frontwardly with respect to the body in alternating succession and to displace the head in lateral directions with respect to the body such that the head moves toward one lateral side of the body as one of the legs displaces frontwardly from the opposite lateral side of the body. Movement of the legs displaces the body of the doll in either a walking or a crawling mode. Further, a motor is connected with the mechanism to drive the mechanism to displace the legs, arms and head with respect to the body. An electrical circuit is connected with the motor and has a microphone. The circuit is configured to drive the motor when the microphone receives sound, particularly a user-generated command.

  • Patent number: 5045015
Abstract: A doll having a pair of mechanically driven legs for enabling the doll to move over a surface when held in an upright position. The doll includes a body portion for housing and supporting various elements of the doll. A pair of leg members are mounted on the body portion and extend therefrom for movement with respect to the body portion. A drive mechanism is drivingly connected to the leg members for moving the leg members with respect to the body portion and with respect to each other, such that the doll moves over a surface when held in an upright position. The doll includes a pair of feet positioned which are biased such that when the doll moves over a surface only the toe portions of the feet contact the surface. Additionally, the left arm and head member are drivingly connected to the drive mechanism such that when the leg members move, the head member and left arm member pivotally reciprocate with respect to the body portion to provide the doll with a ballerina-like fluidic motion.

  • Patent number: 4732049
Abstract: A removable toy motor module which can be used with a variety of figure toys and toy accessories. The motor module uses a battery powered motor which drives an output gear extending from a motor housing. The output gear can be used to drive a variety of accessories and the motor module can be easily attached to the harness of a figure toy. A battery cover may be rotated with respect to the housing for the purpose of turning the motor on and off. Gears located in the housing engage the motor to the output gear. A clutch ratchet and gear-clutch drum are designed to disengage if the torsion transmitted to the output gear exceeds a predetermined value, providing a built-in safety feature. A compression spring is used to minimize damage to the output gear in case the motor module is dropped. An O-ring disposed around the output gear provides a seal allowing the motor module to be used in water.

  • Patent number: 4685894
Abstract: A toy vehicle having front opening gates and an ejectable flywheel seat which may be used as a gyroscopic top or to propel the vehicle. The flywheel seat is removably mounted to the top of the vehicle. A launching level rotatably coupled to the front axle of the vehicle may be used to simultaneously eject the flywheel seat from the toy vehicle and open two gates at the front of the vehicle. Downward movement of the level causes a tiltable box to rotate resulting in the seat being ejected from the vehicle. Movement of the lever also causes a sliding plate to move forward forcing the front gates to open. A flywheel is rotatably mounted inside the flywheel seat. When the flywheel seat is mounted on top of the vehicle, gears coupled to the front axle and mounted inside the tiltable box cause the flywheel to rotate inside the seat as the front wheels of the vehicle rotate. As such, the kinetic energy of the flywheel may be used to propel the toy vehicle forward.

  • Patent number: 4471564
Abstract: A spring driven power device in which energy in a loaded spring is delivered to a rotary member. A hollow cylindrical member having a splined inside surface is provided. A stem with external splines is coaxially mounted within the hollow cylindrical member with a space between the members. A viscous material such as silicon putty is disposed in the annular space between the members. A driving spring is provided which can be a coil tension spring with connections from the spring to one of the members, preferably the hollow cylindrical member. Relative rotation between the members is resisted by the viscous material. The spring releases its energy driving the hollow cylindrical member in a manner such that the energy is released in a steady controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 4073088
Abstract: The subject doll includes a body, a head rotatably mounted on the body, and a pair of arms having hands formed thereon being articulatedly mounted on the body. A drive mechanism is located within the body for simultaneously rotating the doll's head through a predetermined angle to face towards one side of the body and for moving the arms from a first raised position wherein the hands are spaced from one another at about the level of the shoulders of the body to a second position wherein the hands are positioned adjacent each other near the midriff of the body. When the doll is positioned on a play surface, on its midriff with the doll's hands in their first position, the movements of the doll's head and its hands to their second position will cause the center of gravity of the doll to shift. The doll will then tip over in a direction opposite to the direction in which the doll's head faces in its turned position and thus roll over on its back.
