The hair styling device (10; 210) has a first arm (12; 212) and a second arm (14; 214), the first and second arms being moveable relative to one another between a closed or operative condition and an open or inoperative condition. The first member (12; 212) has a first heating panel (16; 116; 216) and the second member (14; 214) has a second heating panel (18; 118; 218). The heating panels (16, 18; 116, 118; 216, 218) are corrugated to increase the length of the path the hair must take between the heating panels. The first and second heating panels are spaced apart in the operative condition so as not to press or clamp the hair therebetween.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hair styling device, and in particular a multifunctional hair styling device having components which can carry out a number of different (and distinct) styling operations. The invention provides a hair styling device having a body portion and a handle portion, the body portion having an air inlet and an air outlet, an impeller between the air inlet and the air outlet and an electric motor to rotate the impeller, the handle portion having a pair of heating panels. The handle portion is separable from the body portion and can be used alone as a hair straighter, or the device can be used as a hair dryer with the handle portion attached to the body portion. The first broken ring (1) is of a first material and the second broken ring (2) is of a second material. A break in the ring of the first material is offset circumferentially from a break in the ring of the second material. The assembly of the rings forms a closed ring assembly which can be cut through in the region of the break in the ring of the first material to open the ring assembly. At least one of the rings (1, 2) of the ring assembly is resiliently stressed in its assembled state such that, upon cutting through of the ring assembly, the confronting ends of the assembly move apart.

A first driving member drives a portion of the length of hair into the first hair-receiving region and a second driving member drives another portion of the length of hair into the second hair-receiving region. The first and second driving members move independently and sequentially so as to reduce the tension applied to the length of hair.

Pairs of spike units are rotatably and preferably detachably mounted on opposite sides of the central body. The device may further comprise serrated webs extending outwardly from the central body between the spike units. The device may also comprise rows of sharp-edged teeth axially aligned along the central body. Alternatively, the spike units may be partially rotatable serrated propellers or may be pivotably rotatably mounted. The device may be moulded from plastic material.
