    Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal display device, including: a first substrate; a second substrate; a liquid crystal material interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and combined with a polymer composition to exhibit a blue phase; and a pair of transparent electrodes formed on the first substrate, for applying a lateral field to the liquid crystal material, the lateral field being parallel to the first substrate. The polymer composition is formed to have different densities in a direction between the first substrate and the second substrate. At least in a region overlapping with the pair of transparent electrodes, the polymer composition has a part having a highest density, the part being located closer to the first substrate than to the second substrate.

    Abstract: In a three-dimensional image display device using a liquid crystal parallax barrier panel, a liquid crystal display panel is first roughly aligned with the liquid crystal parallax barrier panel using an alignment mark. Subsequently, a white pattern for two pixels is formed in the center of a screen. When an observer's eyes are brought close to the screen, a blue pattern is generated in the center, and a white pattern is generated on both sides of the blue pattern. The relationship between a width d1 of the blue pattern and a width d2 of the white pattern is d1=2d2, and the tilt of the blue pattern is set in a predetermined range, so that necessary alignment accuracy can be secured.

Columnar spacers are formed on the counter substrate. Pedestals are formed on portions of the TFT substrate, the portions corresponding to the columnar spacers. A convex portion and a concave portion are present at the top end of the columnar spacer. The pedestal is formed corresponding to the concave portion. The concave portion is opened at the ends thereof and connected to the lateral side of the columnar spacer.

    Abstract: A pixel electrode is formed on a TFT substrate, and a gate insulating film is formed thereon. On the gate insulating film, formed is an inorganic passivation film, on which a common electrode having slits is formed. Through-holes are formed in the gate insulating film at areas where the pixel electrode faces the common electrode, and the pixel electrode is not connected to a source electrode in the through-hole. The through-holes are filled with the inorganic passivation film, and the common electrode is formed on the inorganic passivation film at a position corresponding to each through-hole. The pixel electrode faces the common electrode at the position through not the gate insulating film but only the inorganic passivation film, and thus the pixel capacity can be increased. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent changes in the electric potential of the pixel electrode caused by ON/OFF operations.

    Abstract: A method of terminating a pair of transmission lines is changed over by terminal setting. Display data is supplied to a master drive circuit and (n?1)-pieces of drive circuits from a host computer via the pair of transmission lines in accordance with a differential serial transmission system. Each drive circuit includes an SELC terminal. When a voltage inputted to the SELC terminal is at a first voltage level, a resistor having a resistance value of Ra is connected between the pair of transmission lines in the master drive circuit thus terminating the pair of transmission lines, and the pair of transmission lines in the slave drive circuits is opened.     Abstract: A high quality liquid crystal display device has an alignment film with a photoconductive characteristic. Since a region having gate lines situated therebelow does not undergo irradiation of a backlight, no photoconductive effect can be obtained. A photoresist is disposed below the alignment film situated over the gate lines in order to transfer the charges in the region to an opening portion of the alignment film in an early stage. Since the photoresist has a thickness of about 1.5 ?m, which is 20 times or more the 70 nm thickness of the alignment film, the resistance in the lateral direction is low in a portion where the photoresist is present. Accordingly, since the charges on the alignment film present over the gate line transfer to the opening portion of the alignment film and are eliminated in an early stage, the residual image is eliminated in the early stage.

    Abstract: Between a pair of mother substrates, spaces are defined by a seal. The pair of mother substrates is cut to cut out cells. The seal is arranged to fill a region between adjacent spaces. On the seal, a low moisture-permeable layer made of a material that is harder and has lower moisture permeability than the seal is laminated in the region between the adjacent spaces. On at least one of the pair of mother substrates, a pair of projecting stripe portions extending along a length of the seal and arranged at an interval is formed in the region between the adjacent spaces at a position overlapping with the seal and the low moisture-permeable layer. In a step of cutting the pair of mother substrates, together with the pair of mother substrates, the seal and the low moisture-permeable layer are cut between the pair of projecting stripe portions.
