    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end, the main body further providing an aerosol passageway that extends through at least a portion of the main body, and a heat sink portion. At least part of the receiving chamber is located in the heat sink portion, and the heat sink portion is configured to dissipate heat from a substrate cartridge. Some implementations further include a cartridge retention assembly and a sliding assembly. The sliding assembly is configured to slide relative to the main body to and from at least a loading position, wherein the cartridge retention assembly is configured to receive a substrate cartridge, and a use position, wherein the cartridge retention assembly is configured to retain a substrate cartridge.

    Abstract: A cartridge for use in an aerosol delivery device, the cartridge including: an outer housing configured to contain at least an aerosolizable composition, the outer housing including an exit portal at a proximal end thereof for passage of an aerosol; and a bottom cap positioned at a distal end of the outer housing that is configured for insertion into a receiving chamber of a control device of the aerosol delivery device. The outer housing defines a front face portion and a rear face portion interconnected with sidewalls, wherein the front face portion has an asymmetrical configuration relative to the rear face portion, such asymmetrical configuration being effective such that the cartridge engages the control device of the aerosol delivery device in only a single orientation. In various implementations, the aerosol delivery device comprises a control device that includes an outer housing defining a cartridge receiving chamber, and further includes a power source and a control component, and a cartridge that includes a mouthpiece, a tank, a heating assembly, and a bottom cap. The mouthpiece defines an exit portal in an end thereof, and the tank is configured to contain a liquid composition therein. The cartridge is configured to be removably coupled with the receiving chamber of the control device, and the heating assembly defines a vaporization chamber and is configured to heat the liquid composition to generate an aerosol. An inlet airflow is defined by a gap between the cartridge and the control device that originates at an interface between an outer peripheral surface the mouthpiece and control device.

The loading assembly may include a sliding carrier and a loading motor, wherein at least a portion of the receiving chamber may be located in the sliding carrier. The sliding carrier may be mechanically coupled to the loading motor, and the loading assembly may be configured to move an inserted substrate cartridge from a loading position to a use position via the loading motor and sliding carrier. The holder may further comprise an ejecting position.
