    Abstract: An apparatus (500) for enzymatic synthesis of a plurality of polynucleotides, the apparatus (500) comprising: a first of a plurality of well plates (502, 902, 804, 904, 806, 906) having a first number of reaction wells: a second of the plurality of well plates (502, 902, 804, 904, 806, 906) having the first number of wells arranged to correspond to the reaction wells of the first well plate; and a vacuum transfer station (1000) configured with a plate lifting platform (1006) that is moved vertically by a horizontally driven wedge-shaped component (1004), the plate lifting platform (1006) being configured to move vertically to raise and lower the second well plate, wherein when the first well plate is moved to and placed on the vacuum transfer station (1000) above the second well plate, the wedge-shaped component (1004) raises the plate lifting platform (1006) to position the second well plate to a predetermined distance (D1, D2, D3, D4) from the first well plate.
