  • Publication number: 20180105293
Abstract: A Carbon Dioxide Removal System is disclosed. The system can be directed to space applications. The system incorporates unique features that allow ease of maintenance and parts replacement while in space.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 10, 2017
    Publication date: April 19, 2018
Inventors: Robert T. Bigelow, Colm Kelleher, Lorenzo Flores, Juan Plata, Jared Rugg, Derek Johnson, David Birchler, Daniel Krizan, Philip Fowler
  • Patent number: 9901874
Abstract: An air separation system includes a high temperature ozone converter, a mechanical separator, and an air separator downstream of the high temperature ozone converter and the mechanical separator. The air separator receives high temperature air and provides high temperature nitrogen-enriched air and high temperature oxygen-enriched air. The air separation system further includes a heat exchanger downstream of air separator that receives and cools the high temperature nitrogen-enriched air.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 20, 2015
Date of Patent: February 27, 2018
    Assignee: Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
Inventors: Jared Rugg, Catherine Thibaud, Thomas M. Zywiak

  • Publication number: 20160136556
Abstract: A contaminant separator for a nitrogen generation system includes a swirl vane chamber defined by a chamber wall, the swirl vane chamber configured to receive an air bleed flow. Also included is a vane located within the swirl vane chamber, the vane configured to direct contaminants heavier than air radially outwardly toward the chamber wall. Further included is an ejector defined by an ejector wall, the ejector located downstream of the swirl vane chamber and radially inwardly of the chamber wall. Yet further included is a housing surrounding the ejector and the chamber wall. Also included is a contaminant separating path, the contaminant separating path extending from an inlet comprising an annular gap defined by the chamber wall and the ejector wall, the contaminant separating path extending to an outlet defined by the housing and the ejector wall.
