  • Patent number: 8608905
Abstract: This invention concerns the production of a multilayer fiber product. According to the method, on top of a bottom layer consisting of at least one fiber layer, a second fiber layer is fitted containing filler that forms the surface layer. According to the invention, the layers are formed by multilayer web forming technology, and the surface layer filler includes cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils, on which light-scattering material particles are deposited, having a maximum proportion of the total filler weight of 85%. By means of the invention, a base paper is achieved that is suited to thin, coated paper grades, where conventionally the intrusion of the coating color into the bottom paper and through it is a problem.

  • Publication number: 20130139987
Abstract: The invention relates to a fiber web and a method for preparing it. The fiber web comprises a filler-containing base web, which is possibly coated with a pigment-containing coating layer. According to the invention, 5-100% of the filler in the base web is made up of cellulose fibrils or lignocellulose fibrils with light-scattering material particles deposited thereon. These coated cellulose fibrils or lignocellulose fibrils constitute at maximum approx. 70% of the weight of the base web. The base web according to the invention contains more than 20% less retention agents than does a web which has the same formation but in which more than 95% of the filler is made up of filler particles known per se.

  • Publication number: 20040173329
Abstract: The present invention relates to a coated fibrous web and a method for producing it. According to the present invention, a coated fibrous web comprises a filler-containing base web that has a pigment-containing coating layer on at least one surface. The filler of the base web consists at least partially of cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils, on the surface of which light scattering material particles have been deposited. The filler comprises cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils having an average thickness less than 5 &mgr;m produced from plant fibres by refining and screening. Considerable advantages are achieved with the present invention. With the help of the composite filler, the formation of the fibrous web can be improved significantly without impairing the retention, which makes is possible to achieve an extremely smooth substrate for the coating. The smoothness of the surface can also be improved.

  • Publication number: 20040168779
Abstract: The multi-layer fibrous product and a process for producing it. According to the present invention the fibre product comprises at least two overlapping fibre layers, whereby the one that forms the top layer of the product contains filler and is lighter than the layer under it and is at least essentially opaque. According to the present invention the filler of the top layer consists at least partially of cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils, on which light scattering material particles have been precipitated. The present invention can be used, for example, to produce white surface liner with a lighter top layer without impairment of the strength of the surface. Thus, the grammage of the layer can be at least about 5% by weight less than a top layer, which has the corresponding opacity and formation, and which has been produced from the same fibre material and mineral pigments.
