  • Patent number: 10555223
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate the transition of user equipment between basic service sets within a WLAN or from a basic service set within a WLAN to a cellular data link of a cellular network. In the context of a method from the perspective of the user equipment, a message is received that identifies one or more basic service sets or cellular data links to which user equipment is potentially capable of transferring. For each basic set or cellular data link, the method includes determining from the message whether the respective basic service set or cellular data link is a candidate to permit an internet protocol (IP) address of the user equipment to be preserved following the transfer. The method includes an indication associated with each respective basic service set or cellular data link to identify whether the IP address of the user equipment is able to be preserved following the transfer thereto.

  • Publication number: 20090305674
Abstract: An apparatus and method perform device management (DM) operations for a wireless network. One example includes receiving, at a network device, connection information of a roaming device in the wireless network. Next, at least one of a user profile and a corresponding roaming device profile are created in response to receiving the connection information, and a device management session may be established. In addition, a bootstrap message may be created based on at least one of the user profile and the corresponding roaming device profile and may be forwarded in order to initiate the device management session.

  • Patent number: 6661782
Abstract: The invention relates to a cellular packet radio. network and to a method for updating a routing area in a packet radio network. Packet radio support nodes (SGSN) are connected to a digital cellular radio network (BSS), which provides a radio interface for the support nodes for packet-switched data transmission between the support nodes and mobile stations. There is a logical link between a mobile station (MS) and a serving packet radio support node (SGSN). The packet radio network utilizes logical routing areas, each of which comprises one or more cells. Each cell broadcasts information on the routing area to which it belongs. The mobile station sends a routing area update request to the packet radio network when it roams to a new cell which belongs to a different routing area than the old cell. The update request includes the identifiers of the old and new routing area.

  • Patent number: 6430163
Abstract: A method for allocating a packet associated control channel to mobile stations in a packet radio system, particularly in a GPRS system. The sends a resource allocation request, to which a network responds by allocating to the mobile station a TFI identifier and a USF identifier. The network then sends data packets in blocks, at least some of which comprise a polling field (SIP), a polling state which indicates that the mobile station is to acknowledge received data packets on the control channel. To ensure that a mobile station receiving in downlink would not prevent the network from allocating one uplink mobile station to said channel, the allocation of the packet associated control channel is, in accordance with the invention, independent of a possible USF identifier.

  • Patent number: 6356759
Abstract: In a packet radio system (e.g. a GPRS), a network (BSS) has two different alternatives for allocating a radio resource to a mobile station (MS). In a first allocation alternative the radio resource is allocated using an uplink counter block identifier (USF) transmitted with downlink blocks. In a second allocation alternative the radio resource is allocated in a separate signalling message. A corresponding downlink block then also has an uplink counter block identifier (USF) which can acquire only a limited number of possible values. If all identifiers (USF) are allocated to different mobile stations, allocation alternative 2 cannot be used. In the invention the network leaves at least one identifier (USF) unallocated to any mobile station.
