  • Patent number: 7324720
Abstract: In an exemplary aspect of the invention, a method is disclosed for protecting optical coupling between optical ports on opposing electronic components. The method comprises the following. First and second electronic components are oriented, where each of the first and second components has a side comprising an optical port, so that the sides are opposite each other. The first and second electronic components are positioned so as to enable optical coupling between the optical ports. A ring is formed, using at least one material, to surround the optical ports and fill a gap between the sides of the first and second components. The first and second components are mechanically coupled together. In other exemplary aspects, apparatus are disclosed having a ring formed around optical ports (e.g., one or more sets of optical ports) and between sides of electronic components.

  • Patent number: 6473078
Abstract: A method and a device for power management regarding an integrated display unit including a video display and at least one peripheral device, wherein the video display uses horizontal and vertical sync signals for the synchronization of the display images, and the peripheral device uses a peripheral signal to carry out its function. The peripheral device can be an audio unit using audio signals to produce sound. The peripheral device can be a USB connector using a +5 V voltage to indicate a connection being made to the integrated display unit. In the integrated display unit, a single power supply is used to provide electrical power to the video display and the peripheral device. In order to reduce the power consumption by the integrated display unit, a number of power consumption states, based on the presence of the video sync signals and the peripheral signals, are implemented. The presence of the video sync signals can be detected by a micro-controller in the integrated display unit.

  • Patent number: 6351084
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for reducing an electric field produced by display devices equipped with cathode ray tubes, in their surroundings. According to the invention, a part of a spectrum (ff), caused by a picture content, the level of which is separately adjusted, is discriminated from an interference voltage frequency spectrum (fs), produced by the display terminal and caused by deflection signals (fv, fh). Spurious pulses, significant for the generation of the electric field, are connected to a compensation circuit, wherein they are summed and supplied to a common emitter. The directions of the pulses are determined so that the electric field produced by the emitter reverses the field produced by the display device.

  • Patent number: 6233162
Abstract: A power supply circuit for powering a display monitor has a switching mode power supply (SMPS) circuit and a voltage phase information (VPI) combiner circuit. The SMPS circuit responds to a mains voltage signal (i.e. mains input) and to a voltage phase information combiner signal (VFB) from the VPI combiner circuit, for providing three different signals. The VPI combiner signal (VFB) contains information about a phase relationship between a current drawn by the switching mode power supply and a voltage of the mains voltage signal. The first two signals are provided back to the VPI combiner circuit, and include a voltage phase information signal (VPI) containing information about a voltage phase of the mains voltage signal, and a voltage feedback signal containing information the voltage of the switching mode power supply signal. The third signal is a switching mode power supply signal for powering the monitor.

  • Patent number: 5877598
Abstract: The invention relates to the controlling of picture tubes used in television sets and monitors, more specifically to the linearization of their horizontal sweep. In the system according to the invention, linearization is performed using a linearization coil (L3) equipped with a control winding (L4) and the effective inductance of the linearization coil is adjusted by changing the impedance (Z) that serves as the control winding load.
