  • Patent number: 7524897
Abstract: A film with a broad molecular weight distribution, excellent impact strength and a high dart drop value or moderate dart drop value accompanied by good optical property consisting of a bimodal terpolymer comprising a low molecular weight homopolymer of ethylene and a high molecular weight terpolymer of ethylene, 1-butene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin, or a bimodal terpolymer comprising a low mo-lecular weight polymer which is a binary copolymer of ethylene and a C4 to C12 alpha-olefin and a high molecular weight polymer which is either a binary copolymer of ethylene and 1-butene, if the low molecular weight polymer is a binary co-polymer of ethylene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin, or a terpolymer of ethylene, 1 -butene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin.

  • Patent number: 6441096
Abstract: A multimodal polymer composition for pipes is disclosed as well as a pipes made thereof. The polymer is a multimodal polyethylene with a density of 0.930-0.965 g/cm3, and a viscosity at a shear stress of 747 Pa (&eegr;747 Pa) of at least 650 Pa.s, said multimodal polyethylene comprising a low molecular weight (LMW) ethylene homopolymer fraction and a high molecular weight (HMW) ethylene copolymer fraction, said HMW fraction having a weight ratio of the LMW fraction to the HMW fraction of (35-55):(65-45). Preferably, the multimodal polyethylene has a viscosity at a shear stress of 2.7 kPa (&eegr;2.7 kPa) of 260-450 kPa.s; and a shear thinning index (SHI) defined as the ratio of the viscosities at shear stresses of 2.7 and 210 kPa, respectively, of SHI27/210=50-150, and a storage modulus (G′) at a loss modulus (G″) of 5 kPa, of G′5 kPa≧3000 Pa. The pipe is made of the multimodal polymer composition and withstands a stress of 8.0 MPa gauge during 50 years at 20° C. (MRS8.0).

  • Patent number: 6329054
Abstract: A cable-sheating composition and its use as outer sheath for a power cable or a communication cable are disclosed. The cable-sheating composition is a multimodal, preferably bimodal, mixture of olefin polymers, preferable ethylene plastics, having a density of about 0.915-0.955 g/cm3 and a melt flow rate of about 0.1-0.3 g/10 min, said olefin polymer mixture comprising at least a first and a second olefin polymer, of which the first has a density and a melt flow rate selected from (a) about 0.930-0.975 g/cm3 and about 50-2000 g/10 min and (b) about 0.88-0.93 g/cm3 and about 0.1-0.8 g/10 min.
