  • Publication number: 20190281649
Abstract: A User Equipment (UE) including a wireless transceiver and a controller is provided. The wireless transceiver performs wireless transmission and reception to and from a service network. The controller transitions the UE from a Radio Resource Control (RRC) idle state to an RRC connected state, and after transitioning the UE from the RRC idle state to the RRC connected state, sends an initial Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message comprising a limited set of Information Elements (IEs) in cleartext, which are required to establish security between the UE and the service network, and a container IE carrying an initial NAS message Protocol Data Unit (PDU) ciphered with NAS security context to the service network via the wireless transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20190261136
Abstract: Various examples pertaining to an improved TAU procedure for intersystem change in mobile communications are described. A user equipment (UE) establishes a wireless communication connection with a first wireless network of a first type of wireless communication system. The UE then performs an intersystem change from being connecting to the first wireless network to being connected to a second wireless network of a second type of wireless communication system different from the first type. In performing the intersystem change, the UE constructs a tracking area update (TAU) request message and transmits the TAU request message to the second wireless network. The TAU request message identifies the UE.

  • Patent number: 9699728
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for power reduction in an electronic device. The method includes determining a local timer value corresponding to an idle time for the electronic device to stay in an idle mode. The electronic device is registered to a service provider to provide service to the electronic device. Further, the method includes starting, upon entering the idle mode, a specific timer with the local timer value, and another timer to track a next update time for the electronic device to update tracking area to the service provider for maintaining the electronic device to be registered to the service provider, exiting the idle mode and entering the power saving mode when the specific timer expires, exiting the power saving mode when the other timer expires, and updating the tracking area to the service provider to keep the electronic device being registered to the service provider.

  • Publication number: 20080046132
Abstract: The present invention relates to preventing electronic devices (e.g., mobile terminal devices) from overheating in a communication network environment. Heat related information indicating heat generation or a simple temperature measurement at the terminal device may be sent to a network element causing the network element to adjust an inactivity period and/or a actual transmission data rate, (e.g. using a DRX/DTX parameter adjustment), so that no further rise in temperature at the terminal device occurs because of dissipation losses in the electronic components of the terminal device. Additionally, a control loop may be constituted starting at the terminal device, which detects the heat related information, provides the heat related information explicitly or implicitly to a network device, which in turn causes the network device to adjust the inactivity period and/or the transmission data rate base on the provided heat related information.
