  • Publication number: 20210211234
Abstract: An electronic device that communicates frames is described. During operation, the electronic device may transmit the frames addressed to a recipient electronic device and associated with multiple links between the electronic device and the recipient electronic device. Then, the electronic device may receive block acknowledgments for at least a subset of the frames, where a given block acknowledgment is associated with the recipient electronic device and indicates received frames on a given link in the links. Moreover, the electronic device may control an amount of traffic conveyed on the links based at least in part on the block acknowledgments. Next, the electronic device may store a remainder of the frames based at least in part on the block acknowledgments, where the frames include the subset of the frames and the remainder of the frames. Note that the frames may have a common traffic identifier.

  • Patent number: 11035884
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are presented for performing network probing. A user equipment device (UE) may store a record associating traditional service set identifiers (SSIDs) with corresponding Short SSIDs. According to some embodiments, the UE may receive a message including a Short SSID, and determine whether a corresponding full SSID is known to the UE. Based on the determination, a probe request may be generated, addressed to either the Short SSID or the full SSID. After transmitting the probe request, the UE may receive a probe response, which may include a full SSID corresponding to the Short SSID. The UE may store a record associating the full SSID with the Short SSID, if applicable. According to some embodiments, a UE may receive a plurality of messages including respective SSIDs, and may generate a single probe request addressed to the SSIDs. The UE may receive a plurality of probe responses.

  • Patent number: 11032770
Abstract: An interface circuit in an electronic device (such as an access point) may provide a wake-up-radio (WUR) discovery frame for a recipient electronic device, where the WUR discovery frame includes an operating class of a wireless local area network (WLAN) associated with the electronic device. The operating class may specify a regulatory domain and a channel set of the WLAN. Moreover, the WUR discovery frame may include an index of a channel in the channel set. Furthermore, the WUR discovery frame may include a compressed or a partial identifier associated with the electronic device or the WLAN. The amount of compression may be based at least in part on a communication environment of the electronic device, such as a number of electronic devices, or a number of neighboring WLANs. Thus, the WUR discovery frame may have a variable size or length.

  • Patent number: 11032757
Abstract: Passive and active scanning for extended range wireless networking. The choice between legacy and extended range signaling can depend on one or more factors. For passive scanning, an electronic device may transmit a combination of legacy beacons and extended range beacons for network discovery by receiving electronic devices. For active scanning, an electronic device may transmit extended range probe requests in addition to legacy probe requests to discover all of the access points within its transmission range. Responses to probe requests can use extended range, legacy, single user, and/or multi user protocols.

  • Publication number: 20210075551
Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for a media access control (MAC) level operation that enables a transmitter and a receiver to select low-density parity check (LDPC) codewords that are HARQ retransmitted. • Publication number: 20210075542
Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for a PHY level operation that enables a transmitter and a receiver to select low-density parity check (LDPC) codewords that are HARQ retransmitted. The operations described herein provide for an increased reliability in detecting codewords at the physical (PHY) layer, as the codeword detection does not depend on detection of a media access control (MAC) protocol data unit (MPDU) start position and length. For example, the PHY layer may store failed codewords without instructions from the MAC layer. This providers for faster and simpler implementation of the PHY layer. Additionally, the operations described herein reduce overhead requirements as the MAC layer may stores a bit stream of correctly received codewords, which requires less the storage space required to store failed codewords. Furthermore, a feedback signal transmitted from a receiving device to a transmitting device may further reduce the number of retransmitted codewords.

  • Publication number: 20210076437
Abstract: Some embodiments include utilizing a multilink media access control (MAC) address structure to support multilink devices (MLDs) that can operate concurrently in more than one link such as extremely high throughput (EHT) access points (APs) and EHT stations (STA), where the multilink MAC address structure is compatible with legacy devices. An EHT AP can utilize a multilink basic service set (BSS) identification (BSSID) MAC address to communicate with an EHT STA identified by a multilink MAC address. Values of the multilink BSSID and the multilink MAC address of the EHT STA are independent of which of the multiple links are used in the communication. In addition, to utilizing a multilink BSSID, the EHT AP can also support unique link-specific MAC addresses to concurrently support legacy and MLD stations. The EHT STA can also utilize unique link-specific MAC addresses that can be different than the EHT AP's link-specific MAC addresses.

  • Patent number: 10911190
Abstract: During operation, an interface circuit in an electronic device may receive, from a second electronic device (such as an access point in a WLAN), an uplink trigger frame that may specify an access category. In response to the uplink trigger frame, the electronic device may first include data associated with the specified access category in one or more frames, and then may transmit the one or more frames to the second electronic device. Moreover, when all the data associated with the specified access category has been transmitted or when there is no data associated with the specified access category, and when there is leftover time in an allocation associated with the uplink trigger frame, the interface circuit may transmit the one or more frames to the second electronic device with additional data associated with another access category that is different from the specified access category.

  • Publication number: 20210014679
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for identity obscuration of a station (STA) connected to a wireless network to prevent the tracking of the STA. Embodiments include a STA configured to establish a security association with an access point (AP) based on an original long term identity for the station and an identity of the AP. The STA can transmit a new long term identity for the STA to the AP based on the security association. The STA can then transmit a request frame to change the original short term identity assigned to the STA to the AP. The STA can receive a response frame from the AP. The response frame can include a new short term identity assigned to the station by the AP. The STA can then map its new long term identity to its new short term identity assigned by the AP.

  • Patent number: 10893482
Abstract: Wireless stations may operate to configure direct communication with neighboring wireless stations (direct communication between wireless stations without an intermediate access point). Mechanisms for near-field device-to-device communications are disclosed. A wireless station may be configured to determine a minimum power level for a near-field device-to-device datapath. The wireless device may determine an average channel interference for a first discovery channel and compare the average channel interference to a first threshold. If the average channel interference is less than the first threshold, the wireless device may select a first transmission mode associated with a first power level and determine a maximum data rate for the first transmission mode.

  • Patent number: 10863546
Abstract: Some embodiments enable improved aggregated throughput and average latency in a wireless communication channel. Wireless electronic devices may implement adaptive contention window (ACW) channel access that improves channel capacity and enables latency sensitive applications (e.g., video streaming), especially when all wireless electronic devices operating on the channel as well as those in proximity utilize ACW channel access. Some embodiments detect when wireless stations on the communication channel as well as wireless stations in proximity are utilizing ACW channel access to obtain a transmit opportunity (TXOP). Based on the detection, an access point (AP) can instruct an associated wireless station to: use ACW channel access to obtain a TXOP, use a different channel access method obtain a TXOP as needed, disassociate and associate with a different AP, or use a different channel access method to obtain a TXOP.
