Patent number: 11027998Abstract: Disclosed herein are compositions and methods of mitigating scale in phosphoric acid and ammonium phosphate plants. Scale-mitigating compositions of the invention can be added to phosphoric acid before or during the concentration in the evaporator cycle of a phosphoric acid plant. The compositions retard the formation of scale on surfaces in contact with the phosphoric acid, and thus time between cleaning is extended and plant productivity increased. Further, the scale that forms is softer and more easily cleaned from surfaces, reducing non-operation time of the plant and/or evaporator. Methods of mitigating scale formation in phosphoric acid production and phosphoric acid handling plants are disclosed. In the methods, scales accumulate more slowly and are softer, more tractable, and more easily cleaned from surfaces to which they adhere.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2020Date of Patent: June 8, 2021Assignee: Ecolab USA Inc.Inventors: Sankar Bhattacharja, Jasbir Gill, Yuhuan Jin, Paul Wiatr

Publication number: 20180030345Abstract: Disclosed herein are polymer compositions useful for inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces in industrial process water recirculating systems. The polymer compositions include interpolymers of about 90 mol % to about 97 mol % of a first monomer, about 0.01 mol % to about 5 mol % of a second monomer that is chemically different from the first monomer, and about 0.01 mol % to about 5 mol % of a third monomer that is chemically different from the first and second monomers; and optionally a fourth monomer that is chemically different from the first, second, and third monomers. About 0.05 ppm to about 200 ppm by weight of the polymer composition is dispersed in an industrial process water source, optionally in the presence of a divalent or higher valency metal ion. The dispersed polymer compositions significantly reduce the corrosion rate of metal surfaces of industrial equipment, even after one or more cycles of concentration.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2017Publication date: February 1, 2018Inventors: Jasbir Gill, Santanu Banerjee, John Chudomel

Publication number: 20050150520Abstract: On-Line and Off-Line methods of simultaneously cleaning and disinfecting an industrial water system are described and claimed. The methods involve the addition to the water of the industrial water system of a Compound selected from the group consisting of the alkali salts of chlorite and chlorate and mixtures thereof; and an acid, followed by allowing the water in the industrial water system to circulate for several hours. The reaction of the alkali salts of chlorite and chlorate and acid produces chlorine dioxide in-situ in the water of the industrial water system. The chlorine dioxide kills microorganisms and the acid acts to remove deposits upon the water-contact surfaces of the equipment. An alternative method involves the use of a chelating agent and a biocide. Other possible cleaning and disinfection reagents may be added as needed including corrosion inhibitors, chelating agents, biocides, surfactants and reducing agents.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2004Publication date: July 14, 2005Inventors: Jasbir Gill, Amit Gupta
