  • Publication number: 20140322807
Abstract: Processes for extracting and recovering nutrients from organic wastes to create a cell culture broth for microorganisms involve the main steps of mixing, solid/liquid separation, optimization, and sterilization. In an embodiment, the method for converting organic waste material into a cell culture broth or growth media includes: (a) mixing an organic waste material with one or more solvent to create a mixture of liquids and solids under substantially turbulent conditions; (b) separating the mixture of liquids and solids into a liquid stream and solid stream; and (c) sterilizing the liquid stream, whereby the cell culture broth or growth media comprises the sterilized liquid stream.

  • Publication number: 20140325390
Abstract: A system may detect multiple accesses of an engagement interface from a user. The multiple accesses may include a first group of accesses performed by a first device and a second group of accesses performed by a second device. Both the first device and the second device may correspond to the user. A message may be selected from a set of messages. Moreover, the message may correspond to the engagement interface. The system may identify the first group of accesses as having a greater amount of user interaction with the engagement interface than the second group of accesses. The system may then determine that the selected message has the greatest likelihood of being read on the first device. The selected message may be communicated to the first device based on the determination.

  • Patent number: 8832775
Abstract: Techniques for spawning workloads are provided. A single repository is read once to obtain an image for a workload or files and resources for the image. The read operation spawns multiple, and in some cases, concurrent write operations, to instantiate the workload over a network as multiple occurrences or instances of the workload in multiple processing environments.

  • Publication number: 20140245742
Abstract: A swirler, such as for swirling air in a fuel injector of a gas turbine engine, includes a swirler body with opposed inlet and outlet ends with a swirler wall extending therebetween along a longitudinal axis. The inlet end of the swirler body defines an inlet opening. A plurality of swirl slots is defined through a portion of the swirler wall that converges toward the longitudinal axis in a direction from the inlet opening toward the outlet end of the swirler body. The swirl slots are radially off-set with respect to the longitudinal axis for imparting swirl on a flow passing from the inlet opening, through the swirl slots, and past the outlet end of the swirler body.

  • Patent number: 8812766
Abstract: File mapping and converting for dynamic disk personalization for multiple platforms are provided. A volatile file operation is detected in a first platform. The file supported by the first platform. A determination is made that the file is sharable with a second platform. The volatile operation is performed on the file in the first platform and the modified file is converted to a second file supported by the second platform. The modified file and second file are stored in a personalized disk for a user. The personalized disk is used to modify base images for VMs of the user when the user accesses the first platform or second platform. The modified file is available within the first platform and the second file is available within the second platform.

  • Patent number: 8813197
Abstract: Techniques for network process identity enablement are provided. Inter-server communications within a network are intercepted so that unique identity-based information is gathered and recorded before a sending process is permitted to release a communication over the network to a receiving process. Moreover, the receiving process cannot process the communication being sent until identifying information is gathered again and independently validated against the prior recorded information.

  • Patent number: 8789179
Abstract: Cloud protection techniques are provided. A security breach is detected in a source cloud environment. An enterprise system processing in the source cloud environment is immediately locked down and is dynamically migrated to a target cloud environment. While the enterprise system is migrating, the source cloud environment creates a fake environment with fake resources within the source cloud environment to dupe an intruder having access as a result of the security breach. Metrics and logs are gathered with respect to activities of the intruder within the source cloud environment.

  • Publication number: 20140196911
Abstract: An impact apparatus conveyable in a tool string within a wellbore comprises a mandrel, a first impact feature, and a latch pin retainer encircling an end of the mandrel. A release sleeve encircles a portion of the latch pin retainer and includes a radial recess. Latch pins retained by the latch pin retainer are slidable into and out of the radial recess, and prevent disengagement of the mandrel end from the latch pin retainer when not extending into the radial recess. A release member electromagnetically causes relative translation of the latch pin retainer and the release sleeve, including aligning the latch pins with the radial recess and thereby permitting the disengagement. A second impact feature is positioned to impact the first impact feature in response to the disengagement when the impact apparatus is under tension.

  • Publication number: 20140195800
Abstract: The invention discloses a system and apparatus for detecting problematic certificate action requests and digital certificates. Ideally, the invention will be used to detect a certificate request that will result in security problems and detect issued certificates that lack essential information. The invention uses a proxy system that intercepts certificate requests and transmitted certificates. The proxy system runs a series of checks on the intercepted request and/or certificate. The checks vary depending on the certificate contents, requester, and system providing the request or certificate.

  • Publication number: 20140145669
Abstract: A balancing circuits and methods for hybrid batteries having two different rechargeable batteries that are coupled in series includes coupling a fuel gauge to each battery to determine the state of charge of each battery, comparing the state of charge of the two batteries, and if the state of charge of the two batteries is more than a predetermined difference, then enabling a switching converter to source current to a node between the batteries or to sink current from the node between the batteries, as required to tend to equalize the state of charge of the two batteries. Otherwise, if the state of charge of the two batteries is equal within a predetermined allowance, then disabling the switching converter.

  • Publication number: 20140143200
Abstract: The system and method for determining fuzzy cause and effect relationships in an intelligent workload management system described herein may combine potential causes and effects captured from various different sources associated with an information technology infrastructure with substantially instantaneous feedback mechanisms and other knowledge sources. As such, fuzzy correlation logic may then be applied to the combined information to determine potential cause and effect relationships and thereby diagnose problems and otherwise manage interactions that occur in the infrastructure. For example, information describing potential causes and potential effects associated with an operational state of the infrastructure may be captured and combined, and any patterns among the information that describes the multiple potential causes and effects may then be identified.

  • Publication number: 20140131100
Abstract: An impact apparatus conveyable in a tool string via conveyance means within a wellbore. The impact apparatus comprises a first portion, including a first interface coupled with a first tool string component, a first engagement feature, and a first impact feature. The impact apparatus also comprises a second portion, including a second interface coupled with a second tool string apparatus, a second engagement feature in selectable engagement with the first engagement feature, and a second impact feature positioned to impact the first impact feature in response to disengagement of the first and second engagement features and a tensile force applied across the tool string by the conveyance means. A release member positionable between first and second positions in response to a signal carried by the conveyance means prevents disengagement of the first and second engaging features when in the first position but not the second position.

  • Patent number: 8717033
Abstract: Integrated MOSFET current sensing for fuel-gauging. A 1st MOSFET through which the current is to be sensed is coupled to a 2nd MOSFET of the same type, the 2nd MOSFET being biased to have the same resistance as the 1st MOSFET. The 2nd MOSFET has a much smaller area than the 1st MOSFET, and is coupled to a current source representing a maximum current through the 1st MOSFET. The voltage across the 1st MOSFET relative to the voltage across the 2nd MOSFET provides a measure of the current through the 1st MOSFET. Various embodiments are disclosed, including embodiments in battery packs to eliminate the need for additional and expensive external components.
