  • Publication number: 20150271317
Abstract: A mobile device having capabilities to access connections to cellular and Wi-Fi portions of a hybrid telecommunications network is configured to display a variety of different icons that graphically indicate a current connection status for both data usage and voice calling on a graphical user interface (GUI). A user can put the GUI into an expanded state to show additional information about the connection status including textual descriptions of icons to instruct the user as to the specific meaning of a given icon. The textual descriptions enable an association between the iconography and the connection state to be established for the user. The icons can then quickly and effectively convey connection state to the user in a comprehensive manner while efficiently using the available display space on the device.

  • Publication number: 20150267005
Abstract: In order to enable various applications of non-Newtonian fluids, which are not hitherto possible as a result of the difficult handling ability of such fluids, a method for producing a non-Newtonian fluid is proposed, in which at least one starting material that can be cross-linked to form a non-Newtonian fluid and a solvent, in which a cross-linking agent for cross-linking the starting material is dissolved, are provided, wherein the solvent has an inhibiting effect on the cross-linking of the polymer. These components are mixed and the solvent is removed from the mixture, whereby the cross-linking agent is released in the mixture and the polymer is cross-linked by means of the cross-linking agent.

  • Publication number: 20150270233
Abstract: Wafer level packages and methods for producing wafer level packages having delamination-resistant redistribution layers are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes building inner redistribution layers over a semiconductor die. Inner redistribution layers include a body of dielectric material containing metal routing features. A routing-free dielectric block is formed in the body of dielectric material and is uninterrupted by the metal routing features. An outer redistribution layer is produced over the inner redistribution layers and contains a metal plane, which is patterned to include one or more outgassing openings overlying the routing-free dielectric block. The routing-free dielectric block has a minimum width, length, and depth each at least twice the thickness of the outer redistribution layer.

  • Publication number: 20150265155
Abstract: In an embodiment, an opto-acoustic probe includes an acoustic receiver, an optical energy path, and an exterior surface with a combined optical and acoustic port. The probe includes an acoustically transmissive optical distribution element having a distal surface and a proximal surface. The distal surface is adapted to be coupled to a volume of a biological tissue to deliver optical energy to the volume and to exchange acoustic energy with the volume and the proximal surface permits acoustic energy originating within the volume due to delivered optical energy to be detected by the acoustic receiver after the acoustic energy passes through the optical distribution element. The optical energy path of the probe is adapted to pass optical energy to one or more optical energy inputs of the optical distribution element.

  • Publication number: 20150271697
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing radio measurements during discontinuous reception. In one exemplary embodiment, the distribution of Long Term Evolution (LTE) DRX measurements is staggered or distributed across multiple DRX cycles (which may be contiguous or non-contiguous) so as to reduce the transceiver activity and power consumption. The exemplary UE in one implementation only performs a subset of measurements during each DRX cycle. By staggering or distributing cell measurements over multiple DRX cycles, the UE can improve power consumption, while still conforming to measurement requirements.

  • Publication number: 20150271540
Abstract: A computer system provides a virtual marketplace in which an advertising opportunity (such as a television advertising opportunity) is expressed in terms of an audience model representing an audience associated with the advertising opportunity. The computer system provides potential buyers of a particular advertising opportunity with information about the audience model associated with that advertising opportunity. The computer system sells advertising opportunities to buyers using any of a variety of transaction semantics. A buyer who purchases a particular advertising opportunity purchases the opportunity to present an advertisement to an audience represented by the audience model associated with the purchased advertising opportunity.

  • Publication number: 20150267330
Abstract: A method of dynamically changing stitch density of a quilting pattern during sewing is provided. Embodiments of the invention include dynamically changing stitch density along an axis of a sewing pattern based on identifying sewing pattern elements, which may include line segments and arc segments. Each of the line segments and/or arc segments is assigned a dynamically adjusted stitch density based on analysis of each pattern element and/or adjacent element. An adjusted stitch density is assigned to portions of pattern elements that satisfy a threshold measurement for sewing with an adjusted stitch density. In embodiments, a standard stitch density, intermediate stitch density, or an altered stitch density is automatically assigned to each portion of a sewing pattern based on an analysis of threshold length of an element, a threshold angle of a portion of the element with respect to the axis, and/or the stitch density assigned to an adjacent element.

  • Patent number: 9141307
Abstract: A method begins by receiving encoded data slices for storage. At least some of the encoded data slices have different data sizes. The method continues by accessing memory container information of the storage unit that includes a listing of virtual memory containers of the storage unit and, for each virtual memory container, bin identifier information. Each virtual memory contain is divided into bins, where the bins of a virtual memory container are of a substantially similar storage size. At least some of the virtual memory containers have different bin storage sizes. The method continues by mapping encoded data slices to virtual memory containers of the plurality based on data size of the encoded data slices and bin storage sizes of the virtual memory containers. The method continues by storing the encoded data slices in the virtual memory containers based on the mapping.

  • Patent number: 9143514
Abstract: A hierarchical security model for networked computer users is described. Files and resources are controlled or created by users within the network. Each user within the network has an account that is managed by a network administrator. The account specifies the user identifier and password. Users are grouped into organizations depending upon function or other organizational parameter. The groups within the network are organized hierarchically in terms of access and control privileges. Users within a higher level group may exercise access and control privileges over files or resources owned by users in a lower level group. The account for each user further specifies the group that the owner belongs to and an identifier for any higher level groups that have access privileges over the user's group. All users within a group inherit the rights and restrictions of the group.

  • Patent number: 9143577
Abstract: An improved system and method for managing data on a handheld electronic device includes a server that periodically pushes data to a particular handheld electronic device, with the data being stored on the handheld electronic device by way of a routine running in the background whereby such reception and storage is generally transparent to a user. The data can be any type of data and may be data that is desired by the user or that fits a profile or preference of the user. The profile can, for instance, be predetermined and/or can be customized by the user and/or can reflect a preference of the user. The data pushed to the handheld electronic device can also be related in some fashion to a geographic disposition of the handheld electronic device. Such pushing of data and storage is managed by a routine running in the background of the handheld electronic device. The routine enables current data to be maintained on the handheld electronic device for ready access by a user.

  • Patent number: 9140651
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining weight percent of solids in a suspension using Raman spectroscopy. The methods can be utilized to acquire Raman spectral data from the suspension and to determine weight percent of solids in a process being carried out, for example, in a vessel, without the need to remove samples for analysis. The weight percent of the solids can be determined with a desired accuracy in a relatively short time, typically 10 minutes or less. The acquired Raman spectral data may be processed by chemometric software using, for example, a Partial Least Squares algorithm and data pretreatment to provide a predicted value of weight percent solids. In some embodiments, the invention is used to determine the weight percent of microparticles of a diketopiperazine in an aqueous solution.
