  • Patent number: 10151225
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes an engine block defining a plurality of cylinders each receiving a piston. A crankcase extends from the engine block and supports a crankshaft drivingly connected to the pistons and including a chamber enclosed by a wall portion that defines a first blow-by flow passage and first and second drain passages therethrough. An oil sump mounted to the crankcase. A first oil separator is mounted to the wall of the crankcase in communication with the first blow-by flow passage and the first drain passage and defining a second blow-by flow passage therethrough and a third drain passage extending therethrough in communication with the second drain passage. A second oil separator mounted to the first oil separator in communication with the third drain passage and defining a third blow-by flow passage in communication with the second blow-by flow passage.

  • Patent number: 9551266
Abstract: A converter housing including a primary housing portion for housing a first converter brick, an intermediate housing portion, and a secondary housing portion for housing a second converter brick. The intermediate housing portion includes an inlet having a first axis and an outlet having a second axis that is angled with respect to the first axis. The first converter brick is disposed within the primary housing portion while the intermediate housing portion defines flow channels that communicate with a downstream end of the first converter brick along an outer surface of the primary housing portion and toward the outlet. The intermediate housing portion includes indented attachment surfaces which engage and hold the primary housing portion.

  • Patent number: 9051871
Abstract: An internal combustion engine defines a plurality of cylinders including full-time active cylinders and cylinders capable of being deactivated. A turbocharger having a twin scroll turbine includes a first turbine scroll in communication with the exhaust passages from the full-time active cylinders and a second turbine scroll in communication with the exhaust passages from the cylinders capable of being deactivated. A scroll control valve is provided in communication with the exhaust passages from the cylinders capable of being deactivated and being operable in an open position to allow exhaust gases from the cylinders capable of being deactivated to pass through the second turbine scroll, and being operable in a closed position to direct exhaust gases from the plurality of second cylinders capable of being deactivated to pass through the first turbine scroll.

  • Publication number: 20150068503
Abstract: A compressor assembly pressurizes an airflow that is received from the ambient for delivery to an internal combustion engine having a cylinder block section and a cylinder head section. The cylinder head section is configured to supply an air-fuel mixture to the cylinder for combustion therein and exhaust post-combustion gases therefrom. The compressor assembly includes a compressor cover configured to receive the airflow from the ambient and a compressor wheel disposed inside the compressor cover and configured to pressurize the airflow. The compressor assembly also includes an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve that is incorporated into the compressor cover and is in fluid communication with each of the cylinder head section and the compressor wheel. The EGR valve is configured to control delivery of the exhaust post-combustion gases from the cylinder head into the compressor cover. An internal combustion engine employing such a compressor assembly is also disclosed.
