    Abstract: A client device is equipped to request a server for a descriptor of an application. The server is equipped to return the requested descriptor, including if applicable, a first locator to a compiled version of the application. In one embodiment, the descriptor also includes a first locator to a portable version of the application. The client device is equipped to retrieve the compiled version, if the first locator is present. In one embodiment, the retrieved compiled version is stored in a non-volatile storage, and executed in-place.
