  • Publication number: 20180030900
Abstract: An air turbine starter (ATS) includes a support structure and a turbine. The ATS additionally includes a gear train that is configured for receiving torque input from the turbine. The gears include an integrated input gear. The ATS further includes an output member. The output member is operably coupled to the gear train and a main engine input member. The output member is configured to transfer torque from the gear train to the main engine input member. Additionally, the ATS includes a motor system that is supported by the support structure. The motor system includes a motor and a motor output gear. The motor output gear is configured to engage the integrated input gear for selectively delivering motor torque from the motor to the integrated input gear such that the motor torque transfers to the main engine input member to selectively dry motor the main engine at a predetermined speed.

  • Patent number: 5388471
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly for retaining a ball screw of an actuator in a housing and driving a position sensor in a control system. The thrust bearing assembly has a cylindrical body with an annular radial projection having parallel first and second inner outer race surfaces. Gear teeth are located on the peripheral surface of the radial projection. First and second roller bearing and associated first and second outer races are located on said cylindrical body. A locating plate attached the housing urges the second outer race toward the housing to bring the second roller bearing into engagement with the second inner race and the first inner race into engagement with the first roller bearing and first outer race to fix the position of the ball screw in the housing. The ball screw is connected to receive rotary torque from a drive gear to position a translating ball nut within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5156181
Abstract: A balanced dual poppet valve for a fluid control device having a housing removable seats. Each valve seat has a cylindrical body with a flange thereon which engages a flexible member made of laminated graphite and retained in the housing to form a seal between the cylindrical body and housing while at the same time creating a defined radial clearance therebetween. A locking ring connected to the housing holds the cylindrical body in the housing and prevents the seats from rotating within the housing. The flexible member positions the cylindrical body within the radial clearance to maintain the alignment of conical seating surfaces on the cylindrical body with each seat with dimensional changes in the housing as a result of temperature changes to assure that flow communication from the entrance port to the outlet port terminates when an actuator moves the cylindrical body to an inoperative position.
