    Abstract: A support belt for use with body armor is disclosed. The support belt has a central member that includes two oppositely disposed side members and at least one horizontal strap that has a vertical receiving channel. There are at least two support straps configured to releasably interlock with the vertical receiving channel and a plurality of straps secured to an outer surface of the body armor to form a support trough that transfers at least a portion of the weight of the body armor to the waist of the wearer. There is a closure device to secure the side members to each other to secure the belt substantially around the wearer's waist.
