  • Publication number: 20180249772
Abstract: A transformable garment that folds and envelops the wearer with a garment body with panels that use origami folding and shape memory alloy (SMA) elements to assist to transform the garment from an expanded state to a retracted state is provided. Garment designs with transformable panels and sleeves can benefit those who have trouble dressing by allowing the garment to wrap around and fit the wearer without outside help. These types of clothes are expected to be beneficial for people with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and also for populations with other body movement disorders and elderly people.

  • Patent number: 9996195
Abstract: A touch screen electro-optic display is arranged such that upon a touch being detected on the display surface, the display surface surrounding the touch “blinks” by being driven to a different optical state, then back to its original state. A second method uses a display having a pen or stylus which can draw lines upon the display. A first line segment is detected and its area updated using a first drive scheme having short waveforms. The area of a second line segment is updated using the first drive scheme. Thereafter, the areas of both line segments are updated using a second drive scheme different from the first drive scheme.

  • Patent number: 9974547
Abstract: Disclosed is a femoral resection guide for measuring and guiding resection of anterior portion and posterior portion of a femur and method thereof. The femoral resection guide comprises a front block, a rear block, a reference gauge means and a locking means. A main scale marked portion is provided corresponding to the front scale member and the rear scale member in order to obtain a size of a patient's femur. The front block and the rear block are respectively provided with a resection guide surface for guiding a cutting tool to cut the femur. Moreover, the positions of the front resection guide surface and the rear resection guide surface in relation to the distal section of the femur can be adjusted, so that the problem of over or insufficient resection can be avoided, and the purchase cost and the storage space of the femoral resection instruments can be significantly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20180119968
Abstract: This invention provides a natural ventilator that is free of moving parts, wind-activated, rain-proof, and not only suitable to be a standalone natural ventilator but also advantageous to be used as an enhanced exhaust exit in a forced-air ventilation system. The ventilator includes a base plate to be secured onto a substantially vertical exterior surface of such enclosed objects as a building or vehicle, a substantially horizontal tube connected to at least one opening substantially centered on the base plate, and a raised body being supported and secured on the base plate with elongated members and having a convex face towards the opening on the base plate. A free space is formed between the base plate and the convex face of the raised body. The convex face of the raised body is configured in such a way that the free space between the convex face and base plate is generally narrower near the opening on the base plate than away from the opening.

Abstract: This invention provides a natural ventilator that is free of moving parts, wind-activated, rain-proof, and not only suitable to be a standalone natural ventilator but also advantageous to be used as an enhanced exhaust exit in a forced-air ventilation system. It can also be used as a suction generator that supplies so-called suction or negative pressure to help stabilize such building components as roof membranes by channeling the low pressure to its underneath to balance the wind uplift above. The ventilator includes a hollow base body to be secured onto an exterior surface of such enclosed objects as a building or vehicle and having a convex upper face, and a hollow raised body being supported and secured on the base body with elongated hollow members and having a convex lower face towards the base body. The elongated hollow members establish conduits that channel the internal spaces of the hollow base and raised bodies. A free space is formed between the convex faces of the base and raised bodies.

  • Publication number: 20170311159
Abstract: Systems and methods to authenticate a controller having a user interface with a manually actionable control include randomly selecting a first position of the plurality of positions of the manually actuable control, prompting a user to position the manually actionable control to the randomly selected position, receiving an indication of the present position of the manually actionable control, comparing the indication of the randomly selected position with the indication of the present position, and authenticating the controller when the indication of the randomly selected position matches the indication of the present position.

  • Publication number: 20170247031
Abstract: A system for preventing accidents includes an eye gaze detector for receiving an eye gaze vector from a driver. The system additionally comprises a proximity sensor for detecting locations of nearby objects and their velocities. A risk is determined based on the nearby object location and velocity. Additionally, the driver's knowledge of vehicle circumstances is determined based on the nearby object location and velocity as well as the eye gaze location. Responsive to the driver's knowledge and the risk, an alert is activated.

  • Publication number: 20170160908
Abstract: A system and method for controlling an electronic system is presented. An icon is displayed on a display. The icon is associated with a function of the electronic system and has an entrance zone about a center of the icon and an exit zone about the center of the icon. The exit zone is larger than the entrance zone. A location of a gaze of a user upon the display is detected using an eye gaze detection system. When the location of the gaze of the user is within the entrance zone, an indication that the icon is selected is presented. When the location of the gaze of the user is outside the exit zone, an indication that the icon is deselected is presented.
