Jason Louis SMALLENBERGER has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 10773934
Abstract: A hoisting system for a machine includes a winch assembly, and a boom such as a sideboom that is pivotable. The hoisting system further includes a fairlead supported at a fixed orientation such that a feed angle of a hoisting cable extending through the fairlead varies in response to pivoting of the boom. A hoisting control system for the machine includes a cable state sensing mechanism resident on the fairlead and structured to produce cable monitoring data indicative of at least one of a cable feed length, a cable feed angle, or a cable load, and an electronic control unit structured to output an alert based on the cable monitoring data.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 2018
Date of Patent: September 15, 2020
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Shawn Philip Fanello, Jason Louis Smallenberger

  • Patent number: 10024710
Abstract: A system is disclosed for monitoring payload at a worksite having multiple machines. The system may have a first sensor located onboard a haul machine and configured to generate a first signal indicative of a total amount of material in the haul machine, and a second sensor located onboard a load machine and configured to generate a second signal indicative of an amount of material being dumped into the haul machine by the load machine. The system may also have at least one controller in communication with the first and second sensors. The at least one controller may be configured to selectively perform a sensor calibration process based on a comparison of the first and second signals.

  • Patent number: 9989511
Abstract: A material tagging system is disclosed for use with an excavation machine. The material tagging system may have a locating device configured to generate a first signal indicative of a location of the excavation machine at a worksite, and a communication device. The material tagging system may also have at least one of an operator input device and a sensor configured to generate a second signal indicative of an identity of material in a work tool, and a controller. The controller may be configured to receive an electronic map of the worksite predicting locations of different types of material, and to make a comparison of the identity of the material with a type of material predicted to be at a location where the excavation machine was located when the material was loaded. The controller may further be configured to selectively generate and communicate an error flag based on the comparison.
