  • Publication number: 20230346584
Abstract: A forefoot orthotic device has multiple regions configured so that impact, propulsive or standing forces experienced by the forefoot of the user are accelerated, decelerated, shifted. transferred, or lessened, so as to promote pain reduction or otherwise address or treat conditions of the forefoot. In one implementation, the device includes expanded areas adapted to underlie the first and fifth metatarsal heads and cushion or offload forces therefrom. In still other variations. the device includes a plateau and regions adjacent the plateau and sloping downwardly therefrom, so that the time during which painful regions of the forefoot experience force, such as during gait or standing, is lessened in favor of transferring such forces to adjacent regions which potentially are less in need of treatment or protection from such forces.

  • Publication number: 20230134968
Abstract: An ambulatory protective device is configured to be worn on a person’s foot who has a foot condition, such as a diabetic foot condition. The ambulatory protective device includes an insole which has viscoelastic inserts located and otherwise disposed relative to non-viscous polymeric foam strata to create zones or areas on the insole characterized by reduced force or contact pressure when subjected to forces from the foot during ambulation when the ambulatory protective device is worn. Such contact-pressure reducing areas are located in the heel area and the forefoot area of the device. The ambulatory protective device, equipped with such insole, may be in the form of a shoe, boot, brace, cast, or walker, such as a CAM walker.

  • Patent number: 11633551
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and devices for delivering gaseous Nitric Oxide (gNO) under therapeutic parameters to reduce infection in a subject. Certain embodiments include devices and systems for delivering pressurized gNO to reduce bioburden and promote healing in the wounds of subjects having various disease conditions, including skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) and osteomyelitis. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides portable wound healing devices for delivering pressurized gNO to the site of a wound to treat various disease conditions in a subject. Other embodiments relate to systems and devices for delivering and for monitoring gaseous Nitric Oxide (gNO) under therapeutic parameters of use to treat a subject. In certain embodiment, the devices include a subject interface unit comprising sensors for detecting gNO pressure and/or gNO flow.

  • Publication number: 20230122424
Abstract: A non-water-activatable cast has one or more layers of sheet-like material which create a combined flexibility, stiffness, or rigidity so that the cast may be manually positioned in substantial contact with a lower extremity to be received within the cast. As such, the cast is not only readily deployable by a patient, but has predetermined flexibility located and selected to control ankle movement within a therapeutically appropriate range, whether used by itself or in association with a related orthosis, such as a CAM walker. In certain applications, the cast likewise offloads or otherwise redistributes force by virtue of the rigidity of the plantar impact surface on such cast and the rigidity of other cast portions.

  • Publication number: 20230047698
Abstract: An expansion sock includes one or more expansion zones formed of a different type of knitted fabric than adjacent zones. The expansion zones permit the sock to be used on a person's bandaged foot because the bandaged portions of the foot can be accommodated without either increased pressure on the bandages while minimizing excess, bunched material adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 11291906
Abstract: Headgear includes a base configured to engage the head of the wearer. A force absorbing structure is carried by the base. In some cases, the force absorbing structure includes a surface including a coarse macrostructure configured to facilitate absorbing forces applied to the headgear. The coarse macrostructure includes a plurality of protrusions, and at least one of the protrusions has a thickness of at least about 0.50 mm. In some cases, the force absorbing structure includes a porous macrostructure configured to facilitate absorbing forces applied to the headgear. The porous macrostructure includes a plurality of passageways each having a width of at least about 2.00 mm.

  • Patent number: 11253383
Abstract: A CAM walker includes a removable collar assembly configured to engage a cast or other brace device being worn on a lower extremity received in the walker. The collar assembly includes portions, such as paddles, configured to be brought into engagement with the brace device sufficiently to inhibit anterior and posterior movement of the proximal end of the walker relative to the proximal end of the lower extremity received therein.
