Abstract: A method of operating a motor control system for a brushless direct current (BLDC) motor includes: receiving a current command signal; measuring a measured phase current for two or more phases of a plurality of phases of the BLDC motor; determining an estimated motor current based on the measured phase current; determining, using a Kalman filter, a modified feedback current signal based on the estimated motor current; determining a current difference signal as a difference between the current command signal and the modified feedback current signal; determining a voltage command based on the current difference signal; and operating a plurality of switches in an inverter to selectively conduct current and to thereby apply a voltage to the BLDC motor in accordance with the voltage command.
