    Abstract: An information handling system housing is secured against unauthorized access with a security device integrated in the housing that selectively enables and disables screw movement relative to threads disposed in the housing. For instance, a freewheeling nut in the housing interfaces with an actuator that selectively releases or holds the freewheeling nut relative to the housing. When released, a screw coupled to the freewheeling nut cannot rotate relative to the threads of the freewheeling nut so that the screw maintains the housing secured until the freewheeling nut is held in position to allow removal of the screw.

In one example embodiment, a magnetic-rheological fluid is disposed in a chamber of the key to pass through openings formed in a piston that moves downward with a keypress and upward in response to a biasing mechanism, such as a spring disposed in the chamber. Current applied to a coil around the chamber creates a magnetic field that varies the viscosity of the fluid so that key compression and range of motion associated with an input as well as key movement to a raised position are programmable to adjust based upon a sensed key position and movement.

    Abstract: A portable information handling system rotationally couples housing portions with a variable torque hinge having a first axle that rotates with a first housing portion, a second axle that rotates with a second housing portion and a synchronizing gear assembly that translates rotation between the first and second axles. Variable torque is applied by selectively engaging and disengaging a coupler gear with the synchronizing gear assembly to apply and remove an increased torque that resists housing rotation. In one embodiment, the coupler gear is an idler gear of the synchronizing gear mechanism that selectively applies and removes an increase torque of the second axle to the first axle. The coupler gear slides in response to an actuator, such as an electro-permanent magnet acting on a ferromagnetic material with high and low magnetic attraction states.

The top surface of the key cap may lie flush with adjacent keys of a keyboard when the key cap is in a neutral position. The electro-permanent magnet key assembly may further comprise a ferromagnetic flange operably connected to one of the scissor plates having angled overlap protrusions situated adjacent to the electropermanent magnet when the key cap is not in the neutral position, such that the angled overlap protrusions are attracted toward the magnetic field to return the key cap to the neutral position.

    Abstract: De-magnetization protection is provided for electro-permanent magnets during information handling system manufacture and use by monitoring thermal conditions at the information handling systems to detect a thermal state associated with de-magnetization and commanding the electro-permanent magnets to an off state so that both magnets in the electro-permanent magnet have opposing polarities. The opposing polarities tend to stabilize magnet polarity to prevent de-magnetization during increased temperatures. Normal operations are then re-enabled once temperatures decrease.

A diffuser disposed between the micro LED helps to diffuse illumination directed at the key for a more even icon illumination.
