Abstract: A simulator is disclosed which includes an image generator that includes a forward display system and a peripheral display system to provide a field of view. The forward display system utilizes a forward projection system to provide forward imagery with high-resolution. The peripheral display system utilizes a helmet-mounted display system to provide peripheral imagery. The forward and peripheral imagery are merged by the image-generator so as to provide a full field of view with as much high-resolution imagery as possible.

Abstract: A simulator comprising a projection surface, a line-of-sight detection apparatus for detecting the orientation of a trainee's head, a projection system for projecting a high-resolution image and a low resolution image on to the projection surface, and at least one mask for merging the high-resolution image and the low-resolution image in an area that is substantially in the trainee's line-of-sight.
