  • Publication number: 20090084722
Abstract: An adapter clip is provided for a filter assembly that includes a housing, a specialized replaceable filter element, and an extension and locking mechanism for cooperating with the specialized filter element to preclude operation of the filter assembly without a specialized filter element. The adapter clip will render the extension and locking mechanism inoperative and permit the use of a universal filter element. Also, the use of the adapter clip will enable filter assembly operation without any filter installed, as may be desirable in emergency situations.

  • Publication number: 20070000830
Abstract: A replaceable filter element for use with a filter assembly having a housing with a cover and a support core therein. The filter element has a ring of filtration media and an end cap at each end sealingly bonded to the filtration media. The second end cap has a central opening along the central axis of the filter element for receiving the support core. The first end cap also has a central opening along the central axis of the filter element. The central opening of the first end cap has a smaller diameter than the central opening of the second end cap. The central opening of first end cap is bounded by an annular flange integral with the first end cap and projecting axially inward a short distance from the first end cap toward the second end cap and terminating at a point closer to the first end cap than the second end cap. The annular flange is spaced radially inward from the ring of filtration media.

  • Publication number: 20050199542
Abstract: A fluid filter comprising a shell having an open end and an end plate closing the open end of the shell. The end plate has inlet openings and outlet openings therethrough. Disposed in the shell is a filter media. The filter media comprises an annular multi-layered member having at least two layers copleated together. The outer layer comprises a metal that sacrificially neutralizes the corrosive products in the fluid, and the inner layer comprises a cellulosic or synthetic material. The metal is preferably zinc. In use the fluid will enter the shell via the inlet openings, pass through the filter media and exit the shell from the outlet opening means. The zinc will neutralize the acidity of the oil caused 1) by the sulfur compounds that react with the moisture in the oil to form an acidic solution and 2) carbon particles resulting from incomplete combustion in the engine and thereby protect the engine and increase the life of the oil allowing for extended drain and oil change intervals.
