  • Publication number: 20130300672
Abstract: Palm input rejection on a touch screen of an electronic device is provided by selecting a rejection region of the touch screen dependent upon the orientation of a pointing device. A predicted palm position relative to the touch screen is predicted and touch-input functionality of a rejection region of the touch screen is disabled, with the rejection region selected dependent upon the predicted palm position and the predicted palm position based on an orientation of a pointing device. The orientation of the pointing device may be determined, for example, from the handedness of a user or from an orientation detector of a stylus pointing device.

  • Patent number: 8577071
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a shape-adaptable surface for an audio port of a device includes an audio port, a shape-adaptable surface having a plurality of portions, a plurality of sensors coupled to the shape-adaptable surface, wherein the plurality of sensors are operative to sense a plurality of distances between the object and the shape-adaptable surface, and a processor operatively coupled to the shape-adaptable surface and the plurality of sensors, said processor configured to control some of the plurality of portions of the shape-adaptable surface to adjust the plurality of distances and to provide a channel between a sound receiver of the object and the audio port. An improved audio coupling is formed by adjusting the distances between the shape-adaptable surface and the object, thereby transmitting sounds directly from the audio port of the device to a sound receiver of the object.

  • Publication number: 20130285924
Abstract: A control circuit can be configured to, in a shared mode of operation, interpret a first touch-based action as a cursor-control instruction while also interpreting a second touch-based action as a multi-touch gesture. Such a device can supplement a native cursor-free user-interface approach with a cursor-based selection-and-movement capability that is also responsive to touch-based interactions. That first touch-based action can comprise simultaneously touching the touch-screen display with two fingers that are spaced only within a predetermined range of each other. In such a case a cursor can be displayed between those two fingers. The user can then move that cursor by moving at least one of those fingers. By another approach the device can effect a cursor-based selection action upon detecting a momentary touch on the touch-screen display.
